i *promised* D.C. to write about how i accidentally drove on the autobahn, so here goes~ S. & i were driving from switzerland to austria and had been warned that austrians take overspeeding VERYSERIOUSLY… ugh! being the law-abiding citizens we are, we decided to be extra careful once we exited switzerland then i *noticed* that 70% of the cars surpassing our VW golf on the roads were BMW, so when we stopped @ a gas station, i zoomed out on the GPS it had decided the shortest distance to our hotel in austria was to ROUTEUSTHROUGHGERMANY… we had been driving on THEAUTOBAHN ~*~ let the driving begin ;p scenery//**** the german alpines are with dotted castles and rolling ranges of beautiful greens however, we were spoiled coming from the lake hugging sky-high alpines w/snowy mountain backdrop of switzerland loads of greens just seemed very forest-y in comparison driving//*** overall, the roads are nicely paved and the route itself was filled with wide curves… we were driving during traffic hours, but because it was the autobahn, everyone was going at decent speeds like i mentioned before, our lil’ V4VW golf had slight trouble accelerating on the incline, so we were being passed left and right BUT! on the way down, because i’ve been trained to drive through some windy roads, i PASSED all the bimmers!!! i’m unsure whether to assume they don’t know how to drive windy roads since these drivers could be germans or tourists, but they were braking the whole way downhill it was more enjoyable after i dodged them and their glaring red brakes ps. i *think* this drive would be more enjoyable late night when there are less cars around ~*~ :note: driving freeway vs regular roads in europe is a HUGE difference… if you’re not from a metropolitan area, then it might resemble home… but for those of us that have the distinction between surface streets, highways, and freeways… there’s a massive difference… in europe it’s either the super efficient freeway or a 2-lane highway that goes by the speeds of a granny so given the chance ALWAYS take the autobahn!^^
