Restaurant Zum Arabischen Coffebaum

Seit 1720 bestehendes Traditionscafe. Ambiente ist schön. aber natürlich mit vielen Touristen versehen. Bedienung war angenehm und aufmerksam. Der Kaffee kommt mittlerweile aus WMF Automaten, die nur einen mäßigen Kaffegenuss bieten. Das deftige Quarkkäulchen, mit € 6,50 nicht ganz billig, aber vom Koch mit Stolz zubereitet und persönlich serviert. Ein Besuch wert, aber die Kaffeetechnik könnte einen Schub Verfeinerung vertragen.

It’s not the cheapest restaurant in Leipzig, but it’s one of the best. They’re quite proud of being the second-​oldest coffee house in Europe. The building dates from the mid-​16^th century, and is a gorgeous, baroque design. There’s indoor seating, but you really want to sit outdoors to enjoy the architecture and the fountain in the tiny square where it’s situated.
You can still get coffee, but they also serve a full menu and beer, of course!
My favorite dish on the menu is their mediterranean-​style chicken with figs, couscous and pineapple (it goes along with the ‘Arabic’ theme, but they also have traditional German dishes). This visit I got it accompanied by a Leipziger Gose (beer) with waldmeistersirup. Sweet, but tasty! (I think that gose tends to be too sour on its own).
I’d highly recommend a visit here to any visitor to Leipzig.
Oh, they also have a little exhibit on the history of coffee on the top floor of the building. If you’re feeling up to some stairs after stuffing yourself with beef rouladen, it’s worth checking out!
