Hey Joe Retro

Ok, if you follow my reviews at all you’ll notice a big fat chunk of my disposable income pie is spent on… food! And booze. I need to confess to you that sifting through racks and racks of floral, stripe, fluro — whatever the trend is this week — clothes is not my idea of a fun day out. I like my clothes shopping to be easy. And that is what you get walking into Hey Joe Retro.
Their walls are lined with easy treasure. So many fantastic dresses, skirts, shirts, tunics & pants dating back to the 50’s, 60’s & 70’s. I simply fell in love with a stack of stuff — which actually fit me! I picked up a gorgeous summer dress for a garden party wedding and my partner found some positively groovy blue white plaid pants and head turning shirts.
We could have really gone to town with amazing decanter and wine glass sets, BBQ paper plate party holders, flamingos, leather vintage suitcases etc but we curbed our spending to just a few more accessories and a really cool «gossip chair» which is a little all in one bench chair and table (that used to be for the telephone back in the days of landlines — who has those these days, FYI — if you want a 70s one, look no further than Hey Joe Retro!).
This isn’t an op shop, it is a vintage boutique where the owner considers every piece thoughtfully. So be prepared to find genuine stock at appropriate prices (ie not your bargain bin $ 4 a shirt!).

Hey Joe has some wicked style.
Yeah they’ve got sale bins for $ 10 and sale racks for $ 20 but they’re just traps to lure you in cos once you catch their selection of rah-​rah skirts and 60’s, 70’s dresses and 80’s pants you’re trapped. This is a distinguished retro boutique, no riff raff finds it’s way through that door and stays long, they are all about quality with a «nothing younger than 20» policy with the goods they take.
More than just a clothing and accessories supplier they also sell a range of treasure from typewriters (a bright red one with my name on it for $ 139) to dial up phones, shoe polish sets and art work galore (if you are looking to see some old art work I hear they are done with desperately sad looking girls or holier than though figures but anything with character or a sense of movement is in.) The boots and jackets are divine but the price tags that go with them tell you that the proprietors know their worth (anywhere from $ 80-​$ 230.)
The vintage shop you shop at when you have the money to kick it with the best.
