Sakana Plus

bought takeaway box of calamari today which was about half the size of previous box some weeks earlier yet the same price.
also no pepper or lemon wedge in box– very disappointed with their decreasing value for money and apparent lack of concern
when i verbally expressed my opinion. won’t be going back nor
recommending them to anyone !

Here’s a novel idea. A Japanese fish and chippery. Sakana Plus, on Sandgate Road in Clayfield is the place to go to try out this ingenious twist to an old classic.
The idea is the same, even down to whether you want your fish crumbed or battered. It’s just that this time you’re choosing between ‘Japanese Bread Crumbed’ or ‘Crispy Japanese Style Tempura Batter’. There are single packs ($ 12.90) as well as family packs on offer ($ 48.90). Hell, you even get seafood sticks and potato scallops just like you would at a dingy place by the seaside.
Even if the idea is the same, the presentation and taste is totally different. Sakana Plus obviously has a different approach to cooking up fish and chips. When you eat Sakana, you don’t feel like you’re greasing up your insides. You see some greenery on your plate and feel less guilty about being indulgent. Your food is served to you, not in newspaper or butchers paper, but on a plate, and it’s presented thoughtfully and elegantly. It’s structural, even.
They have other standard Japanese cuisine on offer as well. My choice of the more traditional dishes would have to be the Chashu Don ($ 13.90), which is steamed pork belly on rice with kim-​chi chilli jam. Other dishes that look enticing are the Takoyaki ($ 6.50) which are octopus balls served with Japanese majo, and the Okonomiyaki ($ 12.00) which is a seafood and vegetable pancake.
This little hole in the wall restaurant offers a great place to dine if you’re out in Clayfield. Stuck in the middle of feeling like something classic and adventurous? You’ve found it. Sakana Plus.
