Not too crowded beach. Great for jogging or just relaxing on the sand. There was a no swimming sign when I was there but I’m sure it’s not there all the time. I left the beach feeling relaxed and happy.

Now is the summer of our mass content, made glorious tanning by this king of sands! Curly is great. It’s sort of the forgotten beach, everyone gets off the line at Mantown, keeps going to Dee Why, or is seduced by the Lolita charms of Freshy. But if you dig a wild, rippy swim, like a less-crowded surf, or want to play in the Wet’n’Wild of Sydney swimming-friendly rockpools, this is your huckleberry. Go the south end. The rock pool has ramps, a sandy bottom, separate kids and adult sections, and plenty of basking space. Peach of a place to while away a sunny day away from the great unwashed.

My first surfing experience in Oz; fast dumpy beach break with one heck of a rip but it was kind to me my first time though I really was not ripping nor graceful. My local break is a slow rolling longboard break but it was fun, I got wet and didn’t disgrace myself too much!

As a Northern Beaches girl for life, I’m always at the beach. And I have to say that Curl Curl(Or, let’s be serious, Curly) is my absolute fave. It’s a big, sweeping beach that’s longer than the average — great for a contemplative walk or an intense jog. With its sheer size(Curly is actually North and South Curl Curl), there’s plenty of beach for all — if you’re not in the mood to deal with nippers, teens with attitude or beach huts as far as the eye can see, you can always wander down and pick yourself a nice little patch on the sand out of earshot of others. However, be aware of the rip — it’s certainly there, rendering Curl Curl slightly more tumultuous than its southern neighbour, Freshwater. Consequently, it’s also popular with surfers — sometimes a hazard if you choose to swim outside the flags. With three big Warringah Council carparks, it’s never too hard to find a park. But, beware — Curly is on the bus line, and is therefore populated with school kids most weekends. A small price to pay for a day in paradise.

Curl Curl Beach is a little like a tempestuous relationship in which the other person is trying to kill you on random days of the week: this beach is beautiful and blonde but the break here can be incredibly rough. The further into summer we go, the(relatively) gentler the break seems, but some days, the length of the beach will be posted with«Dangerous Current: Do Not Swim» signs and a safe swimming area roughly the width of an SUV. As a strong swimmer, I have gone out on some days when it was plainly inadvisable and swells were definitely over 6 feet. And I paid the price, getting dragged along the bottom and coming up spluttering. Capitol fun! Despite, Curl Curl is probably my favourite beach — the sheer size and width of the beach means it is always reasonably quiet and parking is fairly easy. It can be a bit of a trek to come all this way and find out that swimming is a Bad Idea, but for surfers, you can’t go wrong.
