During the 6 months that I spent in Redfern, Jap’s table was by far my favorite place to eat. The staff is friendly, and the meals are consistently incredible. To this day I dream of mushroom lovers and donburi from Jap’s. When I visit Australia again, this restaurant will be one of my first stops.

Average sushi in my opinion. Rice was dense and had no flavor, cuts of fish weren’t much better than your standard takeaway sushi rolls. Nigiri appeared like it was made in a log then cut into pieces… Kinda strange. Was hoping for more. Service was good though, and cheap corkage for BYO.

Having just moved work places from food paradise Crows Nest to food wasteland Redfern, I’ve spent the last week on a mission to find good places to eat. Yesterday I made the trek(15 min walk) over the Darlington to try Japs Table. And boy am I glad I did. I judge all Japanese restaurants on the quality of their teriyaki. Sushi is sushi, most places can get that right. But I struggle to find places that make teriyaki properly — I when I say properly I mean chicken pieces covered with a light sauce, not left over deep fried chicken covered in a thick sauce. I am pleased to say the teriyaki at Japs Table is perfection. I had teriyaki don and enjoyed every mouthful. You could tell it was cooked on a smokey grill, the sauce was flavoursome, the greens were tasty, probably over did it on the ginger but I always remove half the ginger as I prefer a hint of flavour. And the service was amazing. I was getting takeaway and I don’t think I was there for more than 5 mins. This will definitely be my once a week lunch(and with the walk I get a good bit of exercise in as well, pluses all round!)

Despite the slightly offensive name, the food was delicious and pretty genuine. I lived in Japan for 5 years, and the aroma when I walked into the shop brought me back. Yakitori skewers were divine!

Great value, local Japanese restaurant. Tasty food, friendly staff, cosy atmosphere and most importantly delicious green tea ice cream! It’s not premium produce but for around $ 20 a head both your tummy and wallet is full ! BYO if you would like a drink.

awesome for lunch, and very authentic with a cheery Japanese couple running the place. Had the yakitori, which had some delicious sweet soy sauce on it, as well as the pork don(I forget what it’s called) and sushi. The sushi seems a bit pricey for two pieces, but they’re surprisingly big and filling.

Great for lunch, I really like the sushi(haven’t found any other decent sushi nearby). Authentic, quick, and decent value for money. Good for take-away or sit-in, and I appreciate the healthier lunch options than some of the greasy take-away shops nearby(though there’s plenty of unhealthy options here too ;) I’m pretty sold on the sushi, it’s a little pricier than typical food court prices but it’s really good. They’ve got a few interesting variations on the standard sushi rolls that are really worth trying.

I ate the Yokohama Ramen. It was brilliant. The stock was super rich. It was a flavour explosion with no survivors. Just a porky fallout. I come here frequently for lunch and it has not been satisfying two of the seven times I have eaten here. But the ramen was exceptional. They are open for dinner which I have not tried yet. The menu is different and looks pretty exciting. The Yakitori are great here. Cooked on a Yakitori Grill. They have an amazing smokey flavour. Definitely give it a taste.
