Darra Palace Chinese & Vietnamese Restaurant

I’ve never been disappointed, angry or sick from this restaurant. I’ve also seen the same old lady there for over 15 years, so this place has been around for a while. This is a great little family restaurant where the food is good value for money and the quality is consistent.
My suggestions — the dry spicy shredded beef, the chicken supreme (name makes it sound not so chinese but it’s pretty yummy) and the combination meat and beancurd hot pot. The san choi bow is not bad as well, they serve it to you when they bring it out. My seasonal favourite which comes out on fire is the flambé spare ribs (i’m pretty sure it’s flamed… but it has been on the menu as flambé for so long that flambé it is) and the sizzling mongolian lamb is something that you simply can’t go past.
Now, the décor could do with a little bit of updating, and they could spend a little bit of money on updating and cleaning the edges and outside, but overall, this is a solid establishment. On weekends this place gets pretty busy with big groups of chinese, and that is a sure sign indicator that the food is authentic chinese food.
Having said all of that though, if you don’t get there early, you won’t get a table and if you do get a table when most of the restaurant is already full, you may wait a good hour and a bit for your food to actually come out… which can make anyone grumpy.
So try it out early or try it out later, it’s definetely worth a shot.
