2 in 1 Japanese Bakery

Thank you globalisation for bringing this wonderful thing called a Japanese bakery to our shores. I love anything packed with carbs and baked, so the concept of a Japanese bakery with it’s creative Asian twist on Western baking makes me very excited. The experience of looking at all the things in the cabinet at 2 in 1 is a lot of fun – there are so many weird and wonderful things to choose from. The savouries are my favourite, in particular the Shallot Bun and the Corn Potato Boat. I doubt these are healthy as they leave your fingers pretty greasy, but the combination of oily pastry and tasty toppings makes for a delicious and interesting snack. And with so much to choose from, one could have a different product from the 2 in 1 Japanese Bakery every day for a month and probably not try everything. One would probably also get fat…

Coolest thing about this bakery– they make a Hello Kitty cake (not to mention a Angry Birds cake and a hedgehog cake)! Seriously, the 12 year inside of me nearly died when I saw that! But awesome cakes is not all 2 in 1 can make, they offer almost anything that can be made with flour. Every time I walk past, I can not help but have a quick peak at all the marvellous looking treats on display.
I like to stop by this bakery for a quick snack, there is such a selection though so it is not always that quick as I take forever deciding what I want. When I am feeling adventurous I will try one of the more Japanese-​eque bread rolls like the ‘Red bean bun’ but if I want to play it safe, I will get something a bit more ‘Western’ like a blueberry scroll (yuuuum). Another favourite of mine is the «puff» which is actually a profiterole. Best thing about these little treats is that they are pretty cheap– staring price is around $ 2 (maybe a little less), bargain! Also, if you go there at the end of the day, all their breads are 3 for the price of 2!
So unless you hate Hello Kitty, Angry Birds and things made with flour, your really want to check out this bakery next time you are at Indooroopilly shopping centre.

Heck yes! Love this place! It reminds me of all the cool funky bakeries in Asia. There are a few like this popping up now, such as Breadtop, but this I like a bit more– only slightly though. A clear difference with this place are the staff who work here. They seem like so much fun and are so nice. Sometimes I like to just have a wander through and look at the bread, allowing temptation to take its toll on me, but then a staff member will pop up behind me and next thing you know I’ve chosen several baked treats and I’m paying for them. They’re very encouraging like that. I think, they think, I don’t know the drill and I’m new to 2 And 1 Japanese Bakery, so therefore they tried to help. But I’m all too familiar with the process. You go in there, pick up a tray and pair of tongs, meander through selecting your baked goods and putting them on your tray and check out. Easy, fun and interactive. Again, very encouraging.
Today I was there… again… and decided to just buy some bread loaf. Not extremely exciting given the other choices, but I thought it would make a good replacement for my Woolies bought loaf sitting stale at home. Plus this 2 And 1 loaf has some cheddar cheese melted through it. I can’t wait to have it for breakfast tomorrow with a bit of Vegemite smeared on it!

A year ago I was walking through Indooroopilly Shopping Centre with a bunch of friends. Then, up ahead, we spotted this mysterious kiosk that we had never seen before. Upon closer inspection we realized that this new kiosk was in fact a «Japanese Bakery». Curious to discover how a «Japanese Bakery» differed from a regular bakery we entered the store/​kiosk thing with great haste.
It seemed customary in ‘2 in 1′ to arm yourself with a tray and a pair of tongs as you leisurely browse the range of products on offer. Some of items on offer were truly bizarre; featuring ingredients I don’t normally associate with bread, such as corn and coffee. Not to mention the ‘Hello Kitty’ cakes on display at the front counter. I resisted the urge to buy the ‘Hello Kitty’ cake and eat it entirely to myself in the food court. Regardless, I was eager to try something so I grabbed myself a tall tower of chocolate cake and hurriedly paid at the counter.
As we left ‘2 in 1′ we were all quite surprised by how taken in we were by the place. To elaborate, none of us were hungry nor did we necessarily feel like something sweet. The store had somehow put a spell on us in which we were overcome by the need to purchase mysterious baked goods.
In more recent times I have continually returned to ‘2 in 1′ for their chocolate doughnuts. What makes these doughnuts great is the chocolate glaze on top, which actually tastes like real chocolate! Who’d of thought that was possible!
Overall, ‘2 in 1′ are reasonably priced and the product is totally original. It may not be for everyone but I seem to have become hooked on the sensation of being there. This is very tricky to explain and it is something you all need to experience for yourself.
