Midland Public Library

Midland Public Library is truly awesome. It’s all things most libraries aspire to be. It’s bright, breezy, welcoming, has excellent resources and caters for those who need it.
I’ve used this library a lot over the years and even remember when it used to be in different premises, just up the road. I’ve always been impressed with their large selection of books and helpful staff who work here.
I’ve called up a few times in search of a particular book and the friendly staff have ordered it from one of the other City of Swan libraries for me. They’ve notified me by email when the book has arrived and I’ve happily trotted down to Midland to collect my prized possession. The City of Swan has five other libraries so at least one is likely to stock what you’re after. I think they may even be able to obtain books from the State Library.
This library really is egalitarian too. The kid’s section is a joy to dwell in and I was particularly impressed by a sign that said; ‘Free reading and homework help.’ That is absolutely fantastic. Both of my parents are English teachers and I very much doubt I would have enjoyed English or grasped the subject so well without their help. Also, sometimes an outsider can explain something much more easily to your child. Just because they’re not you. It can be challenging to take homework and reading advice from mum or dad.
Floor to ceiling glass panels on three of the two story walls really enliven this reading space. Light brimming through the windows coupled with purple, green and red feature walls link reading and libraries with fun and joy, especially in the minds of easily influenced youngsters.
Books, magazines, CD books — for young and old, Internet access and a Swan history room make Midland library a valuable resource for young, old and everyone in-​between.
