Boy, do I like free stuff. Might be my hobo heritage, but free stuff rings my bells. Should see me on council cleanup day. I’m that guy with the van creeping outside yo house. You know the one. We snagged a voucher for Himalayan Gurkhas Restaurant on Military Road, it’s just opposite The Oaks and tucked into this little alcove kinda deal where you’d never see it unless you were looking for it. But let me tell you, these guys have it sorted. They are everything a small restaurant should be: family-owned, passionate, generous, and friendly to a fault. Voucher was for 4 people, we showed up with 5 and they accommodated easily. Say whaaa! Nobody does that. They all make like difficult. Win. Then with the mains, an extra dish turned up. The beaming waitress informed us the chef had sent out a complimentary chicken curry. DOES. NOT. COMPUTE. Win, win. And the food was sensational, from the momo chicken dumplings to the scallop curry to the surprise packet of the meal, the ginger chicken. It was fried and glazed and chunky and spectacular. Oh, and my old fave, goat curry, was up there with the tastiest I’ve had, served in a rich gravy sauce packed with coriander. Win, win, win. That’s three wins. Three! And look at me, I’m gushing like a schoolgirl. This has set the bar for restaurant service for me. Vive le Nepal.
