Getting lost in Melbourne isn’t a complete tragedy, in fact it’s all apart of the experience especially when you stumble over randomly displaced but unique one-of-a-kind cafés in the middle of what seems like nowhere. Walked in the wrong direction whilst in a mad rush led me to Foxy Brown, I absolutely loved the 70s retro feel that the orange and brown hues of the café furnishings. The outdoor seating at this corner café provides some decent alfresco dining however at 8am on a foggy Saturday morning wasn’t so appealing. Ordered a ham & cheese toastie and coffee. Coffee was pretty much amazing however the toastie wasn’t so great, mediocre and the cheese wasn’t all melted however it may have something to do with me telling them I was in a rush in all fairness to Foxy Brown. Overall my rating is a reflection of my experience only, however they made up for it with the wafting sweet smells of their freshly baked muffins!

Wow! Love this place. Unfortunately didn’t find it on Unilocal but on Beanhunter. However, this out of the way café is cute and friendly. The coffee kicks A with a Single Origin bean on tap. I had a great Piccolo, a frittata and another coffee finisher: a Magic Johnson– hopefully paying homage to the basketballer as opposed to the appendage. Will I come again? Yep. Me en familia.

The Wednesday lunchtime crowd has a generous showing of loud and brazen children, which is to be expected from a café stuffed with colouring books and crayons. We sat at a comfy corner table and were guided through the bewilderingly complex coffee tasting menu. I ended up with a vial of cold drip coffee and a glass of ice to pour it in, which turned out to be quite pleasant and smooth, but nothing to write home about. The Green Eggs and Ham I ordered had the most excellent pesto. Service was fast and earnest, with our waiter eagerly informing us of the origins and methods of the coffees we were drinking. Definitely worth the small excursion into the residential area off High St.

Foxy Brown is a cute internet café located near Northcote’s train tracks. It’s one of two internet cafes near me. I prefer Foxy Brown for a few reasons. First, you can depend on their internet. It’s consistently reliable and runs at a good speed. There are also several power points in this café, so you have quite a few table seating options. Also, that have a great menu. Their glass encased food selections run from cakes to savory pastries to cookies. They also offer cold pressed coffee here. Definitely a cool crowd and great for internet dependent users. And they have good muffins.

You know how some places you go, people you meet or things you do seem to just kind of fade into oblivion after a few months? When you clearly didn’t hate the experience because otherwise you’d remember that but equally you can’t have loved anything about it because all you can remember is that you definitely did go there /meet them /do that? For me, this is what Foxy Brown is. As someone who is prepared to make significant journeys in the name of brunch, I can honestly say Foxy Brown isn’t worth the trip. Reading other Unilocal reviews makes me think perhaps it’s the sort of place you’d be happy to have near your house. Or that I need to visit again. Either way, it definitely wasn’t awful. I just can’t recall it being great, either.

When I first heard about Foxy Brown I wasn’t watching the right television shows. I was at my niece’s watching Animals of Farthing Wood, so the name Foxy Brown brought to mind the cute fox graphics and illustrations, some sort of forest animal theme, maybe greens and browns and a little orange. I got there and my brain exploded a little. Wrong TV shows, wrong era. Instead of the forest theme I had in mind the walls are that wonderful Orange and the furniture Brown. You know the colours I’m talking about — those which lead the Blaxpoitation films of the 70s. Fro’s, combs and Bootsy Collins. Like I said, wrong era. Found just outside the main bit of Westgarth, Foxy Brown is a really cute place. It began as a house or dilapidated shop front, but after a renovation the orange come to the fore, dating everything perfectly. Coffee is great, and for those after something eatables I’d go the scrambled tofu on toast. Absolute winner every time.

I am a big fan of cafes that are old houses converted to happy meeting and eating places in the back streets of hip suburbia. Ergo I am a fan of Foxy Browns, because this is exactly what it is. Although I must say that for some reason I have never taken to the menu here. I am not sure what it is about it. I have eaten here a few times and found the food to be very tasty indeed. Yet somehow the next time I frequent the place I take a look at the menu and just don’t get enthused. Maybe it is because they don’t serve chips with their burgers! That is all I can offer to shed enlightenment on the subject I am sorry to say, because I really have no other valid reason for this view. Their coffee on the other hand — is fantastic! And they serve up strong coffee too. I always like it when I order a double shot latte or whatever and leave the place bouncing off the walls. My advice is stay away from the train tracks that run near-by, however. Train tracks are no place for a fidgety, adrenalin pumped coffee drinker to start hanging out.

I can sympathise with wannabe Melbourne hospitality entrepreneurs and their struggle to come up with an original café concept. A struggle that seems to have culminated in the somewhat obscure decision to name — and theme — this little Northcote café after a much derided Blaxploitation film from the early 1970s. All tangerine walls, ochre ceilings and modular mid century storage solutions, Foxy Brown is as faithful a themed café as you’re likely to find. Tucked away on the backstreets of Westgarth/Northcote Foxy Brown is a decidedly local feeling café — all comfy sofas outside and cute courtyard out back — with a very high concept concept. Theme observations aside, Foxy Brown is serious about one thing: coffee. Serving a range of different espresso blends and using only the finest certified organic, biodynamic and unhomogenized milk, Foxy really does make great coffee. My one gripe about this little café — which also does a rather fine line in breakfast, burgers and light lunches such as paninis — is the sometimes icy service. Apart from that, this is a pretty good local café.

A whole lot of Coffee. «How do you like your coffee?» «Blaxploition and one sugar thanks» All puns aside this Northcote café set back in the suburban streets is kind of amazing. Bright orange interior and retro touches complete this cafes 70’s shtick. Several kinds of coffee are on offer, piccolos, filter and delectio. The breakfast menu is different… One interesting dish was the scrambled tofu with olives, baby spinach, herbs, dukkah and beetroot relish. I wasn’t feeling quite that adventurous. The«Foxy» quirk extends to the lunch menu with the«Bow Chika Wah Wah» panini which contains roasted free range chicken, house made mayo, avocado, pesto and greens. yum! There is also a cheap/cute kids menu making this place quite family friendly. Foxy is between Westgarth and Dennis station, a 5 minute walk back from High st, definitely worth a visit.
