Four Points by Sheraton Perth

The location was perfect. The amenities were just OK, and the service wavered on bad.
On check-​in I was told that although SPG members usually get free internet, since I had booked through a «travel agent» this was not possible, and advised me to book directly next time. Since this was a business trip and I had booked it through work, I had no choice in the matter. Weird because this is a business hotel — surely it’s not uncommon for large companies to handle travel bookings of their employees through an internal or external service centre — but doing so voids SPG members of member benefits.
Anyway, I decided to get Internet access, at $ 20/​day. It advertises high speed internet, but it was SO bad that I just ended up tethering — it would drop out all the time. It was definitely not worth the money! And I was using it at late nights, too — surely 1 AM wouldn’t be considered peak time?
The facilities were all right. Bed was comfy, shower was good, there is a gym which was small but did the job.
I had breakfast at the restaurant downstairs. I ordered the $ 9 porridge. The serving was substantial, but it was easily the worst porridge I ever had — it was bland and tasteless. I could only finish ¹⁄₃ of it. I hate wasting food but I seriously couldn’t eat any more.
The employees were friendly enough but didn’t just seem to be on the ball.
— When I was in the gym, I had placed my water, room key, and towel on the floor while I was doing weights. Someone came in and started clearing my items (!!) even though I was RIGHT THERE, maybe 2 feet away from my items, working out.
— I gave my room number (220) at the restaurant. The girl put it down at 230.
— There was one light wasn’t working, so I asked someone at concierge to look into it. Even while saying the room # several times, she couldn’t get it. She eventually wrote it down as 222. I had to tell her again, it’s room 220. (Apparently nobody can keep track of room numbers…)
— When I was explaining to the girl that one light wasn’t working, and it was the main light I would need when I’d work late at night, she kept telling me that maybe I didn’t push the key card to the bottom enough to activate the lights turning on. I said I did, but that the one light was dead. I had to explain it several times because she had the impression that I didn’t know how it worked. She eventually said she got it, and said she’d have it checked out.
— But apparently she DIDN’T understand it, because when I got back to my hotel room later that night, ALL the lights was on, but the one light that was dead, was still dead. Called concierge and they sent maintenance again, a bit annoying because I had come back from a long day at work to have this sorted out at around 10 PM. Maintenance was a sweet older man who said he had been told that «no lights were working» and didn’t check the only light that wasn’t working because he’d thought the problem was that none of the lights were working. Fortunately, he got it fixed.
— I asked for complimentary slippers and the girl on the phone thought I asked if someone had turned in slippers at the concierge. I had to explain to her that I was asking for COMPLIMENTARY SLIPPERS.
— I had forgotten to put the «do not disturb» sign on, but I was working late and decided to get up a little bit later. I thought that housekeeping would only make up your room if you had the «make up my room» sign on, but in this case I was woken up at 9 AM by loud, incessant banging and repeated buzzers. The lady who was going to clean the room didn’t seem fussed or apologetic when it became apparent that she had woken me up.
— I had an old address when checking in, they said it was from the address on my SPG account. I told them I’d moved and gave my updated address, asked if they could change it. They still used the old, incorrect address in the invoice.
— Clock was 15 minutes late. Weird.
All in all these are minor things but as a whole, over the span of 4 days I spent there, it gave an impression that the place was not that professionally run. If I didn’t have anything that needed to be resolved I would’ve no doubt rated it higher. But the staff were not able to address simple requests like correcting my address, fixing the light in my room, or even understanding the request of complimentary slippers. Internet was really bad too. How can a hotel, in good conscience, charge $ 20 for such a horrible Internet connection?! (Answer: this hotel has no conscience. It is a money making business, after all.)
For my next Perth trip, I’ll be looking for a hotel in a similar location. The only reason I would come back again was if there were no other hotels with vacancies nearby. The facilities are all right, but the inattentiveness of the employees was off-​putting.

The family and I decided to grab a bite before a show on Saturday night, we usually go to the eatery, however this time it was closed and only open for bookings which was quite disappointing. without having too much time to go searching we just went next door to the best brew bar & Kitchen. It was nice, I loved the whole sports bar atmosphere. You have to go to the bar to order your food and they give you a buzzer to collect when ready. while the meal was enjoyable, it was very over priced for what it was. The pork Sliders were tiny and there were only two, my brother ordered the coconut prawns, which he loved and my mother and I ordered the steak sandwiches, which were part of the main course menu. They were tiny portions for a main. While the meal was okay, I probably won’t be rushing back.

Popped into the bar for a quick drink after a show at the Arena while waiting for traffic to clear. Pretty average bar with very little atmosphere, staff seemed a bit disorganized, considering it must get busy after most shows. Limited drinks, and several of the tap beers were unavailable. Approached the bar at 10:52 to order some fries ($ 9.00) and was told the kitchen closed at 23:00. I pointed out that it was not yet 23:00 and the server checked the time on the till and begrudgingly processed the order and gave me a number. About 10 minutes later our fries arrived in what appeared to be a stainless steel dogs bowl with a small dish of standard tomato sauce. To add to this they were also like warm.
Disappointing end to a great evening.

Stayed here for about a week for business and thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Literally across the street from the Arena located on Wellington, the Four Points took over this hotel and refurbished it nicely.
The room was large and modern. There was a massive king bed that was very comfy and tons of pillows. The bathroom was great and the shower was huge… I loved it. There was also a gym at the top floor, though it wasn’t big it was clean and up to date.
The hotel was only a short walk to Hay street where most the shopping and a lot of the eating is located. So technically not as central as some of the other hotels, but still close enough.
The breakfast buffet was good, but somewhat expensive. Definitely more options around at a cheaper price, but the bar downstairs had great specials throughout the week.

The Four Points by Sheraton Perth is a perfectly fine and comfortable hub while you’re away for work. The rooms are adequately spacious with everything you’ll need — desk, tv, ample closest room, modern fit-​out throughout the bathroom. The concierge staff were always a pleasure during my four nights there. And sure, I hear you saying, «she’s describing it so generically!» And I’d say: that’s because Four Points is pretty formulaic for a chain hotel. There’s no big surprises (other than the $ 100 per night bond held on your card) and for a trip where you’re spending most of your day out and about in Perth you’re in a pretty prime spot to use this as your hub. Located just across the road from the new Perth Arena, you’re a 10 – 15 minute walk from Northbridge and less to the CBD.
The only thing, and it seems like such a ‘Princess in the Pea’ moment is that the bed was just a little underwhelming for my liking. Sleep matters to me and if you get a sleep deprived Ranga. well don’t ask!
