I’ve just found this Japanese restaurant and it’s only a few streets away from where I live. Located in an business area I wasn’t expecting too much from it. Well, how pleasantly surprised I was to find it is superb. Started with mixed sashimi, beautifuly presented on a slate, very fresh. The teriyaki salmon bento box was wonderful with so many little delicacies. My John dory with scalaps and a home made tartar sauce was out of this world. There is a small but adequate wine and beer list and sake of course. The service is warm and friendly with a very pleasant ambience. For a Japanese restaurant the price is quite reasonable. We will be back soon.

Ikura Japan is a lovely little sushi filled secret! Located on Bridge Street, just off the Pacific Highway between Gordon and Pymble stations. Fully licensed and BYO. They also offer catering and take-away. I haven’t been here for dinner, but come for lunch at least once a week and have never had a complaint. They always have a nice selection of fresh, ready-made sushi boxes at the front counter, usually priced between $ 8 — 10. The rest of the lunch menu has decent variety too(except for sushi rolls — these are pretty limited). I definitely recommend the teriyaki salmon steak bento box. For only $ 15.50 you get a nice sized piece of salmon, 3 pieces of tempura, a small salad, rice, miso soup, and 2 pieces of sushi. Yum!
