Authentic Indonesian place with friendly staff. Food though is amazing. Went with the trusted Gado Gado and grilled chicken from the recommendations. I table watched though and everything looked delicious.

Java Restaurant is my new hidden gem. It’s got an amazing menu and a wonderful authentic flavour to its food. Once we saw avocado juice on the menu we knew it was legit. Expect regional favourites and Indonesian specialties. The server was also very aware of dietary requirements and made everything vegan for me without question. The décor might leave something to be desired, but it didn’t phase me. I imagined myself sitting in the front of a family owned shop somewhere in Indo, and it was pretty delicious.

The customer service & food presentation could improve, but the lamb curry soup — oh ma God! Soooo good. The ‘Sop kaki kambing’ is with the whole mix! Just what I’m looking for. :) It’s sad that I didn’t get to try any other dish, but it’s definitely a place to come back for more!

I’m Indonesian and I love this food! yes, it can get a bit crowded and overwhelming when you bring friends and family, but hey you can always come back for more :) My all time favorites is Beef Rendang and Otak-otak(Fish covered in banana leaves). If you brave and feeling adventurous, can ask for sambal terasi(hot sauce with belacan), will spice up your life and taste bud(yeah, it’s reallyburning because it supposed to be hot!). Service is friendly as ever and reliable.

Java restaurant comes with incredibly high ratings so I was expecting something special. Java offers Indonesian food. The restaurant doesn’t try to be colourful or pretty it’s decorated very simply. The menu offers a wide range of chicken, beef, pork, vegetable and seafood options. I opted for Chicken Satay as a starter and then went for Fu Yung Hai. While I was eagerly waiting on my food the very humble owner provided me with some peanuts to keep me from eating my fingers. The Chicken Satay was smothered with beautiful Indonesian peanut sauce. This was amazing chicken. The main dish Fu Yung Hai which is an Indonesian style combination seafood omelette dish. This dish was delicious and the omelettes pieces were covered by a delicious sweet and sour sauce and fresh peas. This was really good and enjoyed finding the different bits of fish in the omelette. I really enjoyed the food it had incredibly flavour and the menu is incredibly big so you could return again and again and have something new. I will be back again define you as I want to try something spicy next time. Compliments to the owner as well. Made me feel very welcomed and offered to move me to a better table when it became free and was always on hand to check that everything was ok with my food. You got to love any restaurant that leaves you a chocolate after you pay too. Top Indonesian restaurant definitely.

In my eyes, this has to be one of the BESTINDONESIAN restaurants in Sydney. I have frequented this restaurant for the the past 30 years. Joe and his staff never fail to welcome you and take care of all your dining needs. It may not be the most lavishly decorated or cheapest — but it does have a most extensive menu and the best satay I have ever tasted. My favourite dish is the Nasi Rames. It is a total dish in itself with small portions of Beef Rendang, Fried Chicken, Gado Gado, Sambal Chilli Egg served with white boiled rice and a fried-shrimp krupuk. I highly recommend this! Ayam Serah: Deep fried Lemongrass chicken served with lettuce, cucumber and a spicy chilli sauce. Opor Ayam: Chicken cooked in coconut milk with galangal, lemongrass, cinnamon, tamarind juice, palm sugar, coriander, cumin, candlenut, garlic, shallot, and pepper. The restaurant is not large in size, so if there are a few groups in there, it may be hard to get a table. That shows its popularity! I recommend that a reservation is made — especially on the weekend nights.

I loved the vegetable soup and the avocado drink, which is really like a dessert is to die for.

I was looking through my trusty Unilocal app to help find a place to take my boyfriend for a nice and easy Wednesday night meal. This place stood out, because, whilst 4 reviews doesn’t make a quorum, all 4 gave this place 5 stars and that was enough to convince me to give it a go. We had the otak otak for entrée which is fish in banana leaves with peanut sauce, followed by the ayam batak in rujak sauce(grilled chicken in a mild, sweet sauce) and the beef rendang — cause 2 reviewers below recommended it. The food didn’t disappoint and this place lived up to the 4 people 5 star hype! My only suggestion is that they need to put the drinks fridge out back because the glare coming from it makes it feel like you are staring into the bright lights of heaven(or hell — if you’ve been bad!). Also, they only accept cash so come with a few notes in your wallet and coins in your purse.

This place is nothing to look at on the inside or out but the place was packed. The food was beautiful and the staff(only seemed to be one person on) was super friendly and helpful with the menu. I went with a group of 4 friends we had 3 entrees, 4 mains and coconut rice and it cost $ 105. That is ridiculous, just over $ 20 each. Highly recommend!

Came in for a late Sundays lunch and ordered the beef rendang sapi and nasi goreng(not the most adventurous choices I admit). Both were delicious Yum yum! This place is unpretentious and good value with friendly service. Will be back for sure.

I have had meals in this restaurants since I was in high school(which was 20 years ago!) Gosh I am an old fart! But this goes to show that longetivity can only mean one thing — there are customers that have been supporting this restaurant for years. And that can only mean one thing for a restaurant — the food is good! Another thing I’d like to add is that I am Indonesian — born and raised. So if anyone is allowed to be critical — it’s me. And I have to give it to them — the spices are done the right way — the traditional way. The food choices are rich food, and the art of cooking Indonesian food lies in the perfect combination of marinating with spices, cooking time, and the balance of sweet and savoury in most of their dishes. Recommendation: Beef rendang is always a crowd pleaser. Gado-gado(salad with peanut sauce). Sweet pork satay. Ayam belado(chicken with chillie marinade). If you want to ask the waiter, they are experts at recommending. AJ

Since I moved to the Eastern Suburbs at the end of last year, I have been going wild with the local Indonesian Cuisine. Indonesian food is so delicious and there are so many choices around. Some of the very traditional restaurants tend to serve mainly dishes cooked in shrimp paste, which is not so much to my taste. Java is one of the broader Indonesian restaurants I have sampled and has a wide variety of dishes which should suit most palates. Last night I feasted on the Ayam Crispy, which is a fried chicken dish and for anyone who is a KFC fan, you MUST try this it will blow your mind.
