This place is always busy and is quite popular, but I always find the staff here quite rude. I needed my quick fix of viet rolls today and since I was in the area, thought I’ll buy a chicken and pork bread roll from here. The girl got my order wrong twice. How hard is it to ask for a mixed roll with chicken and pork and everything else especially extra chili. She makes a pork AND chicken rolls. When she handed me the 2 rolls, I told her «sorry I wanted 1 pork mixed with chicken, just 1 roll»…she says she heard me wrong and that its $ 1 extra for mixed meat, to which I reply «sure I’ll pay extra»…she comes back with 2 rolls this time — BOTH mixed with pork and chicken. I felt bad at the misunderstanding and apologised to her. I tried to make light of the situation by joking my English is probably «not that good», to which I get a blank stare from her. Hmmm… I’m not sure I’ll wanna visit this place any time soon especially when saigon bakery does pretty good rolls too

Once a week at least I have these tasty morsels. Bread is so fresh and as they are so busy the meats get turned over very quickly. So cheap and so delicious

Possibly the best banh mi in Melbourne. I’ll usually stop by here whenever I’m in Richmond; sometimes I drive to Richmond just to buy rolls from here. Once I almost turned my car around to go back for another one.

I don’t know what all the hype is about for these vietnamese sandwiches because i’ve had better. I say this because people don’t realise that there are other areas that sell these sandwiches. This bakery is already a famous bakery that has been brought from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. They have hundreds of chain stores all over the city. Well on to the point, i do enjoy these banh mi nevertheless as they are cheap and you can choosw what type of filling you want. They have cold meats, nem nuong (pink bbq pork stick), xiu mai (meat ball), crispy pork, vego, braised pork, chicken and the list can go on. Lines are very long early mornings and during lunch. Service is not too bad as there are like 5 – 6 girls always serving. Not bad. I wouldn’t drive all the way to footscray for this sandwich but if i was in the area then i would probably buy it

The line was a great indicator. Decent bread (maybe not the best) but great meat on the traditional cold pork #1. BBQ pork was a little odd, that only gets 2.5 stars

I had the standard Vietnamese pork roll on Saturday morning after not having been here for 8 years (I used to be a regular when I worked in the area). The quality was still the same very high level. Eight years ago the roll was $ 2.50 and now it is only $ 3.20. I feel a bit sorry for them. The roll is slightly smaller than the iconic N Lee bakery in Collins St but the filling is probably more generous. But at that price you have to give 5-​stars. The roll was crispy, the ingredients all fresh and the chillies made me hiccough — which is a good sign (I was greedy and ate too fast). I am also intrigued by the strange row of small fried fish in the bain marie and will investigate those at a later date.

My favorite vietnamese sandwich shop so far in Melbourne and they get the bread right. My vietnamese sandwich shop test is when I bite into it I want to be covered in flakes of bread on the first bite. Post sandwich I want to have flakes all over the place. Crisp and light brea with savory fillings.
Bread is key with a banh mi and they got on lock.

From my humble banh mi beginnings at N Lee in Collins St I’ve decided to branch out and finally try some different places to see whether my old favourite lives up to my hype.
A lot of people had told me how great Nhu Lan in Footscray was so on a recent trip to IKEA I made a quick stop by the Victoria St store for a pork meatball roll. The roll was nice with a delicious amount of meat and chilli. I’m leaning towards 8.5÷10 for this one. The freshness of the rolls compared to N Lee was a slight let down but after all, it was 2.30pm on a Saturday afternoon.
Would definitely recommend.

When you’re willing to drive an hour out of your way for a bánh mi, you know it’s good. And when you’re greeted at the door with your order, you know THEY’RE good! «BBQ pork, no butter, no pâté, extra chilli, peanuts, fried onion?» Yes. Get in my mouth now. I will happily give you the $ 4 for the roll AND my firstborn child for this delicious, delicious sandwich from Vietnamese-​heaven! If anyone knows of a better bánh, for the love of goodness tell me. Otherwise, do yourself a favour and put one of these get one of these in your mouth ASAP!

This place is awesome. Especially after a Saturday morning shop at the Footscray Market.
This place offers no-​messing-​around service and some kick ass Vietnamese rolls. My fave is the BBQ Pork roll with chilli. YUM. If I’m super hungry, I’d get two — one veggie on and either a BBQ Pork or chicken.
Only bad thing with this place, is that I wish they’d put more salad. Then again, for just under $ 4 I shouldn’t complain.

This place is extremely cheap and sells everything you want from a Vietnamese bakery, such as: Vietnamese rolls (with fresh grilled pork or chicken and all the trimmings for $ 3.80), pre-​prepared lunch packs with crispy chicken and cold noodle dishes, rice paper rolls, all kinds of sweet pastries and croissants, moon cakes and a variety of other traditional Vietnamese deserts.
They also do coffee, which is generally scolding hot and pretty much what you would expect from a Vietnamese bakery, but cheap. And they’re usually the first place on Victoria street to open in the morning, which is a major selling point if you’re an early riser.
The staff here are lovely and the service is fast.
