The salon is clean, nicely designed and my haircut was semi-awesome. France(not the country) gave my long curly-ish hair a cut. He did a tremendous job on the back, shaping it into long curling layers. However, surely due to my own lack of guidance, he didn’t do anything to the front except trim my bangs. So, the back still looks great months later(yes, I need another cut — stat). and the front even more blah blah blah and just not becoming to my face. I’d love a stylist who knows which cuts will be most flattering to my face shape. I guess ideally I’d also want a stylist to ask if there was anything I wanted done to the front. I should not have assumed that he’d shorten the layers that were already there and I would haven said something at the time, but because he straightened my hair to cut it, I couldn’t tell what it would look like under normal circumstances. I’d definitely have to pay closer attention to what he is doing next time. If there is one. The other issue is that there was no receptionist, so France was leaving me sitting there while answering the phone multiple times and getting other stylist’s clients their tea. Quelle bummaire(fake French phrase, meant to translate to — what a bummer). It’s possible he may have asked me during a regular cut if I wanted something done to the front, but distractions abounded. I was there forever and as a fairly new mom was unusually eager to get home! Now I realize the longer the haircut, the more time off I get, still I might like to spend my time off differently…

I’ve mentioned before that there are only two people in the world that I’m prepared to let cut my hair… and the other one runs this salon. My stylist of choice — Chris — is young, talented and knowledgable. He isn’t afraid to tell you what won’t work and what isn’t achievable. He’s creative, practical(you can replicate at home what he does for you in the salon) and — this is a big one — listens to what you want. Paired with pretty great prices, a gorgeous space, free wifi and a delectable drinks menu, I fail to see what else you could ask for in a hair salon. In fact, the only reason Meddlers doesn’t get five stars is because I’ve never had my hair coloured here, so it doesn’t really seem like the full picture.
