Like a lot of Gen Yers who spend all their time slouched in front of a variety of screens for large periods of time, I suffer from irritating neck and shoulder pain that sometimes makes me feel a bit like a Nurofen junkie. My mother’s friend gave me a voucher for a massage at Spring Hill Physiotherapy, so one day when my neck was particularly sore I called up and made an appointment. I must admit I didn’t hold high hopes — most of the massages I’ve ever had are basically just an expensive back-rub. I wanted the kind of massage that actually had some ongoing therapeutic benefits. The kind of massage that feels like your muscles are being affected and gives you goosebumps and weird twitches from nerves being touched. Spring Hill Physio made me realise that a proper massage is worthwhile and provides lasting relief for pain. Maybe the key is getting a massage at a physiotherapist rather than a day spa or massage parlour, or maybe the masseurs at Spring Hill Physio are exceptional. Either way, I’ve become a regular and whenever my neck and shoulders are giving me grief I make an appointment. An added bonus is that because it’s a medical establishment, your health fund might subsidise some of the cost(depending on your level of coverage). I’ve never had a massage elsewhere as good as the ones I’ve had at Spring Hill Physiotherapy, and even though my new obsession with Unilocaling is definitely not doing my neck any favours, I know Spring Hill Physio will!
