Haas-Beisl

Delicious, unique, traditional food. This place is small but the food’s flavor is not. I wasn’t real hungry so the fish was a perfect meal. My husband had the pork roast with an amazing horseradish-​apple sauce… unbelievably tasty! My son had schnitzel but it was stuffed with white asparagus and bacon… Super moist! This place is a must try. We’ll be back!

Gute Küche und reichhaltige Getränkekarte. Schwerpunkt natürlich: Österreichische Küche, also eher Hausmannskost. Aber das macht ja ein Beisl auch aus, oder?

Auf das Haas Beisl sind wir gestoßen, weil wir Sonntag mittags etwas Warmes in den Magen wollten, das auch noch in Gehweite unserer Wohnung liegt. Dass wir dabei auf so ein Juwel der Wiener Küche gestoßen sind, war Glück.
Mittlerweile gehen wir dorthin wenn die Lust auf Wiener Küche groß ist.
Besonders zu empfehlen sind die gebackenen Apfelspalten (die bekommt man ja leider nicht so oft in Wien) und was ich auch sehr liebe das Beef Tartare (kann man als Vor– oder Hauptspeise haben).
1-​Stern Abzug muss ich leider gebe, wegen dem Eierschwammerlgulasch von letzter Woche — das war sehr fad!
Für Vegetarier gibts immer 2 – 3 Speisen, ist aber eher ein Lokal für Fleischesser und Biertrinker (Hopfenperle vom Fass!)

Haas-​Beisl is an old Viennese Beisl in the coolest part of the Margareten neighborhood. Without a doubt this establishment is extremely charming in appearance — both outside and inside. It is on the small side but that only adds to the charming atmosphere. The food here is very decent — think tasty classic Viennese and Austrian specialties. I was there recently because they had a special menu with a Pumpkin Cream soup, mixed salad, and a Tirolean Gröstl which I always like a lot. (By the way they also had as a decoration the largest pumpkin I have seen in Vienna this year.) There are lots of old fotos on the wall which are interesting to look at … but be careful as we sat at a table underneath an old Rapid Vienna team photo which I never would have done if I had noticed it before sitting down. I felt like writing «Austria Wien Rules» underneath that foto, but I resisted the temptation as I didn’t want to get thrown out before devouring the authentic Gröstl.
Now what are some of the negatives? Haas-​Beisl certainly is a little bit too «Bieder» for any real hipster. Perhaps for some, it might be a little too smoky (I didn’t think so but I’m not that vigilante about smoking like I know some people are). But to me, I think there is only one major negative — the service. This is a Beisl filled with Stammgäste (regulars) whom the wait staff all know and seem to treat pretty well but those same waiters can be pretty perfunctory and unsmiling to outsiders. If you are visiting Vienna and feel that you have somehow missed out on the «mürrisch Kellner» (grumpy waiter) treatment, dine here and there is a good chance you will experience it in live action!

Typisches Wiener Beisl mit guter Wiener Küche!

A small restaurant in a less touristy location in Vienna. They serve some seasonal dishes and some old Austrian classics that you are not easily find in other restaurants. The restaurant itself feels like from an other time, it’s very authentic and nice. Service was great and the dishes were really amazing. We had the liver and the Beuschl (which is a sort of Austrian stew of giblets) both were really great. I certainly can recommend this place if you want to try some authentic Austrian dishes.

Spritzer, Schmäh und Schanigarten — wer gerade im 5. Bezirk wohnt und/​oder Gäste aus dem Ausland hat, kehrt hier sicher gerne ein in diesem Spezial Weinhaus an der Margartenstraße. Die Preise in diesem gemütlichen, lange schon hier ansässigen Original Beisl sind gemütlich, die durchwegs gutbürgerlichen Gäste in diesem schönsten Teil des 5. Bezirks sind es auch. Der äussere Auftritt gerät sehr verspielt und lieblich, das Innere überzeugt dann doch mit seinen gepolsterten Sitzen und den typischen Lampen. Ach ja, vorzüglich essen kann man hier auch und staunen: über eine beinahe konkurrenzlos große Weinkarte. Wieder kommen empfohlen…

Wirklich uriges Wiener Beisl mit sehr gutem Essen. Klassische österreichische Küche.
