This review is about the restaurant located on the ground floor of the hotel. During lunch time it’s open to everybody and offers always 2 lunch sets(soup + main dish). If you work nearby and you are looking for an alternative to the canteen at work, it might be an option. As I said the choice is not huge but the food is tasty and neatly served. The price is also reasonable: 6.90 €. The daily menu is always presented outside the hotel. If you’re lucky to spot a burger listed on it, go for it! I highly recommend it.

Hotel Ibis is a budget European chain that provides simple, comfortable rooms at a fraction of the cost of larger and more centrally located chains. Right on Lassallestrasse and barely two blocks away from the Praterstern u-bahn and S7 s-bahn line, it’s a rather central hotel with easy access to the First District. Buses go past frequently and there is a well-marked bike lane. Star Bikes, nearby, sells bicycles and I am not sure about rentals. Also adjacent to the Ibis is its sister hotel, Ibis Budget, which I assume to be more like a hostel with shared rooms. Prices range from E40 up for singles, and I saw additional rates at the budget hotel from E6−12 per person per night. The Ibis Wien Messe is fully serviceable and the helpful staff speak English and German well. The reception has a full rack of brochures for tourist sites, guided walks, and other points of interest for business and pleasure travelers. The comfortable, clean and brightly lit entrance is a godsend for tired travelers getting in from the airport and the train station. Bright colours and lively, modern décor make the hotel much friendlier than other hotels in its class, which often feel dark, run-down, or very businessy. All hail a hotel chain that goes for spirit rather than soulless facades. The Ibis has free wi-fi for all guests and customers in its late-night restaurant. They serve a full menu with breakfast, lunch, and dinner entrees. Dining for two cost us E35 including drinks, taxes, and tip. The restaurant had a salad bar, soup, and bread stand set up buffet-style and we ordered off the menu. Better still, they are open late. Our flight got in quite late and after dropping everything off at our apartment, we desperately wanted something to eat without travelling back into the Ring. The bacon-wrapped pork medallions were presented wonderfully and they came out tender and moist. It was served with spinach fettuccine noodles and steamed vegetables, including zucchini, broccoli, and squash. The noodles were just right, al dente, and the vegetables still slightly firm the way they should be. My grilled chicken in teriyaki sauce with stirfry vegetables and steamed, herb rice was delicious after a long day of travel. Long slices of chicken were served over vegetables steamed crisp, but not too soggy. The chicken wasn’t slathered in too much sauce, but the teriyaki was put on the plate underneath the stirfry vegetables. Perfection! I also enjoyed the rice, which was a little bit buttery and very fluffy. Restaurant service was a bit slow but helpful and the menu printed in German and English, so a good way to learn and also easy to point and ask for what you want. Prices are reasonable, entrees range between E10−19, the majority around the middle. The restaurant serves a range of chicken, beef, and pork dishes; Austrian standards like schnitzel; and lots of pasta. It’s good, solid good. Salads and sandwiches are also available. Nearby facilities include the Bank of Austria(for 24 hour automated banking service and money conversion), a host of small restaurants and bars, and salons and florists.
