Meine Lieblingspizzeria in Wien, immer lecker und daher auch meistens ziemlich voll.
Darum zu Stoßzeiten lieber reservieren ;)

Das Restaurant ist eher karg bobolike minimalistisch, gemütlich ist was anderes. Die preise sind etwas übertrieben dafür die pizza sehr sehr gut. Einzig allein die Tomaten soße war unterirdisch. Gute Pizzeria nicht nummer eins aber der hype ist gerechtfertigt.

Eine der besten Pizzen in Wien, ebenso im dazugehörigen Disco Volante. Die Pizze im Mari werden von einem neapolitanischen Koch im Holzofen zubereitet, das merkt man. Auch das Bahnhofshallen ähnliche Ambiente ist mal was anderes, gefällt mir. Preise etwas teurer, dafür wird mit biologischen Zutaten gearbeitet. Sehr empfehlenswert

Wären wir in Napoli, wären es 4 Sterne ;)
Da wir aber in Wien sind ist diese Pizza eindeutig 5 Sterne wert.
Dabei muss man vorwegnehmen, dass Pizzen verschiedenen philosophischen Schulen folgen… Dick gegen dünn, viel Belag gegen sparsam, exotisch gegen traditionell.
Daher möge man meine Bewertung als geschmacksabhängig ansehen. Aber die Pizza war vorzüglich zubereitet, die Tomatensoße war dezent gewürzt und der Teig war so, wie ich es bevorzuge, also in der Mitte dünn und mit einem schönen «brotigen» Rand.
Insgesamt sicher eine Pizza, die ich mehr als genossen habe!
Ach, noch etwas: Der Service war blitzschnell und außerordentlich freundlich und aufmerksam :)

Do let it be known that I actually dislike pizza… but…with places like this, there is hope! We ordered a salame pizza, prosciutto and a ½ potato on white sauce pizza, and ½ mushroom and sausage on white split pizza… we ate it all and LOVED it! Thank you Pizza Mari!

Mal ein ganz anderes Pizza-​Konzept. Auf der Karte steht — Pizza — und sonst fast Nichts. Es gibt neben einer Reihe Pizzavariationen nur noch einen kleinen Salat und ein paar Nachtische.
Finde ich gut lieber eine Sache gut machen als zig Gerichte in mittelmäßiger Qualität. Die Pizza kommt aus dem Holzofen und ist echt lecker — die Preise mit um die 10 Euro für die Pizza eher gehoben. Die Weinkarte — Rot oder Weiß — das war die ganze Auswahl.
Service gut. Ambiente — Deko ist nicht vorhanden. Das Lokal hat den Charme einer Bahnhofswartehalle der 70er Jahre. Leere Wände keine Tischdecken — hat schon wieder Charme.
Für eine schnelle Pizza mit Freunden oder Essen in der Mittagspause ideal.

Wer tip-​top Pizza nach Art tipico italiano sucht, sollte hier mal einen Zwischenstopp einlegen. So puristisch die Einrichtung, so puristisch die Garnierung der Pizza mit Öl und Fett. Der Geschmack ist buonissimo und die Prosciutto crudo-​Variante schmeckt sehr fein. Ich habe auch schon die ganz klassische Margherita probiert — normalerweise ein Zwischendurch-​Snack für den schnellen Heißhunger — und selbst die taugt hier als ordentliche Unterlage. Ob zu Mittag oder zum Abendessen.
Die einzige Freude, die mir noch nicht zu Teil wurde war ein Platz an der frischen Luft, aber ich bin zuversichtlich, dass das heuer noch klappt.

Nice little neighbourhood spot that is very walkable from the canal area. Excellent, simple pizza. Margarita with rocket was just the ticket after a day of walkabout.

Ein Laden, der sich spezialisiert hat auf das was er kann: Pizza. Viel anderes außer Kaffee und einer einfach gehaltenen Nachspeisenauswahl gibts dort nicht. Aber mehr braucht man hier auch nicht. Die beste Pizza Wiens.

I came to check out Pizza Mari because my favorite, Riva, was closed at the time. We were celebrating a birthday so we had a rather large group.
Mari has a good basic menu with classics and a few interesting things. I was happy with my pizza, the Bresaola, but not blown away. The crust was delicious– actually the best part of the pizza.
They have a nice space, very airy feeling and full of natural light. The service was only ok. They seemed a bit annoyed to have to serve a large group. Location is nice for the summer when you could order a pizza and take it right to the Augarten for a picnic with Italian flair.
I will still stick to Riva if possible in the future, but Mari isn’t a bad second choice.

Super leckere Pizza. Zwar ist die Karte klein, aber das Essen hervorzüglich. Preis/​Leistung TipTop. Pizzas sind authentisch, das heißt, dass es hier keine «Standardpizzas» wie Hawai oder Thunfisch gibt. Bedienungen sind freundlich. Kann ich nur empfehlen.

Beste Pizza der Stadt. Preis /​Leistung top. Einzig an die Einrichtung muss man sich gewöhnen, man könnte es mit einer Bahnhofshalle vergleichen. Abgesehen davon, kann ich dieses Lokal 100% weiter empfehlen. Achtung Suchtgefahr :) Einmal Mari, immer Mari

My family of five LOVED this place. We had visited Naples and had pizza there just days before our trip to Vienna, and we generally thought that the pizza (we got mostly margarita) was about as good as that of Italy. What higher praise can you give a pizza place than that?
There’s outdoor dining available and I’d recommend that when the weather is nice. You might want to call to make a reservation before you arrive. Friendly service. Highly recommended.

Supergute, authentische Pizza aus Neapel! Herrlich kross ohne fettig oder übertrieben gewürzt zu sein — ein Garant für Genuss!
Leider finde ich die Auswahl der Pizze eher gering, dies kann man aber als Vor– und Nachteil sehen — immerhin konzentriert man sich hier anscheinend auf das, was man kann (trotzdem ein Punkt Abzug von mir, würde mir auch Pizze mit Meeresfrüchten o.ä. wünschen). 5 Personen haben für jew. ein Getränk und eine Pizza insges. 50 € bezahlt. Super Preis-​Leistungsverhältnis!
Im Sommer gibt es auch einen kleinen Gastgarten, allerdings direkt an der Leopoldsgasse gelegen, ergo: nicht so «gemütlich».
Innen spartanisch eingerichtet, das tut dem Genuss aber keinen Abbruch, da freundliche Bedienung und hervorragendes Futter — und darauf kommt’s ja an!

The service is quick, the quality is on-​par with (my past experiences) a good slice of pizza in New York. They keep the pizzas very simple and basic — although the toppings are quite good.
Pizzas cost on average € 8 — 9, while a 0.3L beer will set you € 2.10. It’s worth a try if you like pizza with a refreshing glass of beer at a sit-​down restaurant.

They say this is the place to go if you are looking for authentic Italian pizza: thin and wood oven-​fired. Like most of the ingredients, the oven is also imported from Italy.
–Marinara (tomato, oregano, garlic): ehh. There’s about an even ratio of dough to tomato sauce so you get an even taste of both. I wasn’t a huge fan of the crust so I left the ends of the pizza sitting and unfortunately because it’s so thin, eating it takes like 2 seconds.
–Margherita (tomato, mozzarella from cow, basil): this was far superior to the marinara as it has a kick to it because of the fresh basil and mozzarella. The basil I’m telling you was GARDEN FRESH and added a great zing. But yet again, the pizza slice was finished in 2 seconds and not very satisfying.
FINAL VERDICT: I’m biased because I’m a Sicilian-​style lover, but I will say that the ingredients were exceptional and the Margherita had a nice flavoring.

Nothing less than the best pizza i have eaten maybe in my whole life (might be streatching it) but… if you like you pizza simple, with a great base this is for you. Wood fired pizza oven and only 3 – 4 toppings is my style. I do not like pizza where the fridge is emptied on to a lump of flavorless dough (which in my oppinion is the common way to do it)

Sehr gute Pizza. Leider ist die Einrichtung nach dem Vorbild «Berlin Hipster» etwas kahl ausgefallen und die Pizzen nicht immer mit gleich viel Belag.
Bei etwas motivierterem Personal und gleich bleibender Qualität gibt es den 5. Stern.

After reading the reviews for this place, we went in with rather high expectations. We were disappointed.
The pizzas were average, at best. Good, tasty crust (nothing out of the ordinary, though), but pretty poor and flavourless toppings.
The inside of the restaurant is not very friendly. It feels like you’re eating in a makeshift waiting room rather than a restaurant.
On the bright side, the service was nice (the waitresses spoke English well) and prompt, and the prices were very affordable.
Overall, it’s an alright place to get a quick pizza, but don’t be fooled by the glowing reviews. We want to a random pizzeria the following day and had pizza that was at least twice as good as this.

kleine überschaubare speisekarte aber was solls es ist alles drauf und die pizzen sind die besten der stadt.
das service ausgezeichnet die kellnerinen sind sehr schnell und freundlich.
kaum wurde die pizza bestellt wurde sie auch schon gebracht schneller gehts nirgends.
sehr zum empfehlen ist die salami pizza die ist echt hammer vorallem weil die salami geschnitten ist und nicht im ganzen.
die pizzen selbst sind groß genug um richtig satt zu werden und der geschmack ist einzigartig findet man in ganz wien nicht.

Leckere, große Pizzen zu moderaten Preisen. Sehr nettes Service. Nur das Ambiente war nicht ganz nach meinem Geschmack — sehr laut und ein wenig ungemütlich.

Aufgrund der bisherigen Erfahrungsberichte hier auf Unilocal.Haben wir uns kurzentschlossen eine Pizza von dort geholt.
Und man muss sagen, dass man dort sicher einer der besten Pizzen in Wien bekommt. Endlich mal wieder ein Italiener der weiß was auf eine Pizza gehört.
Über das Service kann ich nicht urteilen da ich meine Pizzen telefonisch bestellt und dann nur abgeholt habe.
Ich werde dort sicher mal am Abend hinkommen und mir auch ein Bild vom Lokal selbst machen. Mal sehen was die Speisekarte so hergibt.

The best pizza I had in Vienna — and I had pizza in 20+ Italian restaurants in Vienna. So, as a pizza snob, this is my to go real neapolitan pizza joint in Vienna. They do everything right — the oven, the dough, the ingredients! It’s all great. Why not 5 stars — did I mention I was a neapolitan pizza snob?
One more thing — it get’s very busy as the word is out, so making a reservation helps.

I really liked the Pizza here, however for my personal preference they did not have enough meaty pizza selection. But what they do have is very very good.
You can see from the photos of the location what it is like, which i believe most of not all people would enjoy.
The service was outstanding and the price is very good.
If you think Pizza is just pizza and the same everywhere, then please go here and try one of theirs and see of you still think the same afterwards.

Excellent pizza, friendly staff, quite full, you will need a reservation. We came in without one but booked a table outside for half an hour later and all went well. Try the Bufalla but add the salsiche, (the original Italian sausage). I did and it was simply the best. They do not accept credit cards, although it is stated so on this web service. We spoke to them and they had no idea that the information was outdated. So bring cash. The waitress was very polite and helpful. Yet please be aware that these are Austrians, and their culture is slightly different from the American one. Do not expect a chirpy service that will ask you about your dog or grand kids. Yet very friendly and all speak very good English. Do not miss if in Vienna.

That’s the closest to a real Italian pizza I have found so far in Vienna.
Only problem I noticed were the blunt pizza knives they provide. They could really exchange them a bit more often. You could then really enjoy your pizza and not fight with it! :)

Probably best pizza I’m Vienna! Simple as that! This is what I said a while ago. Went back today and realized the ambiance inside is not very special. Yes they do make a great pizza but one would not go for the inside atmosphere. Perhaps summer sitting outside is the special feeling. Up to debate… But maybe next time I’ll order a pizza zu mitnehmen.

Simply the best simple pizza in town in a minimalistic place, good very reasonable priced Austrian wine and good beer. Reservations recommended.

On a blog tip we checked out Pizza Mari’ for dinner. We really enjoyed our meal here. Most ingredients are imported and whatever isn’t is made in-​house, like their fennel sausage. Try the margharita pizza topped with rocket greens, too. One pizza isn’t enough, so plan on a pizza per person. Good wine recommendations and a really tasty chocolate mousse for dessert.
Their recent listing in Lonely Planet has blown their cover as a low-​key spot for pizza and drinks. We spoke with a waitress who was really nice, but bummed to see tourist busses pulling up these days. Either way, it will be good for their business And hopefully, they can still keep their laid back vibe despite the stream of tourists trickling in.
Call ahead for a table. They book up fast.

So, last night — after living in Vienna for nearly 8 months — I got to try what I have so often heard heralded as «Vienna’s Best Pizza» — Pizza Mari’. (What’s that apostrophe there for, anyway? I don’t get it.)
The location was convenient to the U2, but on a street quiet enough to seem quaint and cozy, at least as viewed from the patio. Unfortunately for us, that patio was full, so we had to sit inside on a very warm night. (sad trombone)
Walking through the entrance, you actually get a great view of the pizza oven, which looks pretty cool. Sadly, that about does it for the scenery at Pizza Mari’. The rest of it is a visual snoozefest: boring white walls, boring tile floors, and cheap boring tables. That’s it. (There was a statue of the Virgin Mary outside in an alcove above the entrance, so maybe they were going for that «Unitarian church basement» feeling on purpose?)
Since I didn’t come here looking for «the coolest _​looking_​pizza joint in Vienna», we’ll skip to the good part — the pizza is, indeed, quite fantastic. Despite the fact that my «Bufala» pizza (buffalo mozzarella, basil, and tomato) had only 1.5 actual basil leaves on it, and was a bit soggy for the very thin crust, it tasted SO GOOD. I wanted to eat at least two more pizzas of it. Herr Boyfriend’s «Salame» pizza (I’m still American enough that I have to remind myself it’s not «pepperoni» here) was delicious and just the tiniest bit spicy — which probably means that the locals would call it «sehr scharf». Our dinner companion had the «Salsiccia» — Americans will recognize this as what we call «Italian sausage» (as if there’s only one kind) — and it smelled incredible. Available drinks were about what you’d expect at a little Italian joint — though they do have a few «Italienische Limonaden» and a wine list with a bit more to choose from, if you’re in the mood.
My only real issue with the experience as a whole is that the prices are a bit high, in my opinion, for a place that is clearly keeping overhead fairly low and offering a pretty limited menu. Each of our one-​man pizzas cost just under € 9.
The waitstaff was pleasant — maybe a bit friendlier when we left than when we arrived — not very smiley at the table, but they made sure we had everything we needed and that we enjoyed dinner. They were also patient with our American dinner companion’s attempt to speak German to them, which I always find endearing.
All in all, I enjoyed it, and if I’m ever motivated enough to actually leave my house for pizza again (pizza in my world is mostly a thing that one gets delivered, so that one can eat it in one’s underwear), I’ll definitely be back.
Pro-​tip: When you leave, don’t expect an Auf Wiedersehen — here, it’s «Ciao!»

Die besten Pizzen Wiens gibt es ohne Zweifel in der Pizza Mari’.
Was eventuell an Ambiente fehlt, wird durch den guten Geschmack der Pizzen wett gemacht. Außerdem kann man auch jederzeit Pizzen abholen und das geht auch noch richtig schnell.
Nicht nur die Pizzen sind ein wahrer Genuss für den Gaumen, auch Salate, Oliven, und die Beine sind sehr lecker. Die Pizza Mari kann ich jedem der im zweiten Bezirk wohnt oder den zweiten Bezirk besucht nur wärmstens empfehlen!

Very small menu of delicious pizzas. The entire restaurant is low key and casual with white walls, a big wood burning oven, long tables with a vintage feel.
Simple, straightforward pizza topping combinations, nothing fancy here. Flavourful crusts, great side salads. You come here for the pizza and nothing else. No english menu but helpful wait-​staff.

Für mich die beste Pizza in Wien (dicht gefolgt vom Rossini). So dünn, dass man sie nach der Bestellung teilweise schon nach ca. 5 min. serviert bekommt. Es werden nur wenige Pizzen angeboten, dafür habe ich noch nie eine nicht super gefunden. Auch auf der Speisekarte (habe ich aber noch nicht versucht): Pizza Biancha, ohne Tomatensauce. Pastas gibt es keine, am Abend kann man noch Salat dazu bestellen und es gibt 1 oder 2 Nachspeisen. Also eine kleine, aber feine Auswahl.
Das Lokal hat nicht gerade die Stimmung zum Sitzenbleiben (daher ein Stern Abzug), da die Speisen recht rasch serviert werden und das neapolitanische Weiße-​Fliesen-​Flair nicht gerade zum Verweilen einlädt, man sollte sich also noch ein Plätzchen für einen Drink danach überlegen, wenn man am Abend länger zusammen sitzen will.

Un choix de pizza limité, mais toutes délicieuses, notamment de par leur pâte croustillante et fine. Sans chichi, convivial, clair et simple, et l’hiver il fait bon s’asseoir près du gros four à pizza !

I was looking for a lunch location and read a review about Pizza Mari on Spotted By Locals. So an easy choice to add it to my «to eat’ list for lunch while in Wien (Vienna). Pizza Mari was across the Danube Canal from our apartment for the week but it was a nice hour walk of sightseeing along the way. Anyway, Google Maps guided us there. We stopped at a nearby cashpoint but I believe they do accept credit cards. We entered to find a modestly decorated interior and pleasantly, a full house filled with businessmen to mothers and wee ones.
The service was friendly and prompt. The menu, simple yet flexible. I ordered the Bufala Pizza (fresh buffalo mozzarella, tomato, and basil) and added Rucola (which my boyfriend swears is only to be eaten by rabbits). He ordered the Salcissia which is a classic Margharita Pizza with Hauswurst (Sausage). He also says that meat is the best vegetable. Anyway, add to that two pilsners and it was time to dig in. For me, good pizza is all about the crust, the freshness of the ingredients, and the temperature. Needless to say, we enjoyed our choices. Nothing left in sight on our plates and finished the meal with a cappucino and water. I’ve had plenty of pizza in Europe but this I really enjoyed. I definitely recommend a trip to Pizza Mari. I just might have to include some limoncello next time. When we return to Vienna, it will be on the ‘to eat’ list again for sure.

Wenn man sich von der spartanischen Einrichtung dieses Lokals nicht abhalten lässt und auch kein Fan der American Pizza ist, dann ist man hier schon mal richtig: Dünner Pizzateig, im Steinofen gebacken, keine Überbelastung mit allzuvielen Zutaten (insgesamt nur 8 – 10 Variationen), für mich trotz Büffelmozzarella dennoch keine Sensation. Als Dessert gibt es das, was gerade da ist.
Großer Fortschritt gegenüber früher: Rauchen kann man nur mehr vor der Tür, das ist angenehm.
