Le Chat Noir

Il est 22h, on est au centre ville, on a envie de manger un petit truc simple et rapide. Le Chat Noir est le bon plan: carte pas trop fournie mais qui propose l’essentiel (viande, poisson, pâtes), quelques plats belges et des prix raisonnables. Quant au cadre, il né faut pas s’y fier et avoir peur d’y mettre un pied. Certes, on y va pas l’ambiance ni l’atmosphère mais pour y manger un bout sans prise de tête!

Food is ok. Centrally located, open 24 hours and they take credit cards.
The baguette was amazing. The chicken, chips and salad were ok. Gets extra star for convenience

I was looking forward to an authentic dish from Belgium but sadly I left disappointed. First off the atmosphere isn’t that great, not cozy at all, the menu is a mix of everything: a little Italian, a little french and a little Belgian. To be honest when I saw that I already guessed that this wouldn’t be the best meal we’ll ever had bit nevertheless I decided to give it a chance.
Since I wanted to try a belgian dish I browsed the Belgian selection on the menu which was kind of meehh as well because most dishes were very meaty and heavy, not really my type of food.
Chose the chicories au gratin which was the wrong choice because what I got served was two little chicories wrapped in an humongous slice of ham and drowned in cream and cheese. Ew.
To be fair, my friend ordered mussels which were good.
Service was slow as well and when my friend wanted to order an apple juice with water (which is a totally normal drink to order in austria but apparently not in Belgium) the waiter kind of laughed at her, which I thought was very rude and in the end she got a bottle of water and a bottle of apple juice, well…

For a city that is supposedly known for mussels (moules) and fries (frites), we had the toughest time finding a restaurant that even offered this on the menu. I guess it is not in season or something; but this black cat restaurant was one of two places that we could find that had moules and frites on the menu.
Is it a tourist trap. Yes and no. It is centrally located in the touristy area of Brussels (w/​n stones throw from the Grand Place). Were there a bunch of tourists (besides us) in the restaurant? No. It seemed like everyone else in this joint were locals. And their belgian beer selections were too vast to be solely catering to tourists.
The mussels come out in this huge pot and they’re drenched in the classic butter and wine sauce. We did not expect such a huge portion of mussels. We dipped the french baguette in the buttery mussel sauce. We put mussels on the soggy bread. And we take a bite. C’est Si Bön! C’est Magnifique! (smh– somebody stop me)
Look, we felt obligated to eat this classic dish since we were in Brussels. We were tourists. So we did the touristy thing. I see no shame in that.
The belgian beers were great and paired well with this rich meal. Minus one and a half stars because the final tab was too beaucoup (smh). So I’m rounding up from 3.5 stars.

This is pretty much a tourist trap.
We ended up here on a Sunday afternoon with a friend who needed to catch a plan in the evening, so we wanted an early dinner. This was one of the few places serving around 16h, so we went in here, against our better judgement.
Five minutes after we received the menu, the waiter came to took them back, as he forgot that they had recently introduced a new menu and mistakenly gave us the old ones. The new menu had the same contents, in a different layout, and with all dishes a few euros more expensive. (Also more expensive than the old menu hanging on the street side.)
The service is slow. Our drinks only arrived after half an hour, only a few seconds before the food, even though my friend ordered a kir, clearly meant as an apéritif.
The food was not bad, but also not something you can’t make yourself just as well at home. The prices are high. Touristy high.
All in all, I won’t say this place is horrible, but unless you have a very good reason to go here, better go looking somewhere else. Regardless of the menu issue, which might be a one-​time error, the food is not special and way overpriced.

Brasserie dans la rue des Taï où on peut manger des bonnes vieilles carbonnades et autres belgitudes. Plats corrects mais service très moyen et frites pas assez cuites. A éviter sauf si vous voulez absolument manger une carbonnade le samedi soir à 22h et qu’il faut encore faire une heure de file pour espérer avoir une table au Fin de Siècle :)

Ce petit restaurant propose une carte de plats traditionnels belges. Ils sont copieux mais sans plus.
J’ai pris le stoemp du jour avec lards et saucisse. C’était bon mais le stoemp goutait surtout la pomme de terre et très peu les légumes (un peu de chicon et c’est tout)
Mes amis ont pris la brochette de bœuf et l’ont trouvée correcte mais rien d’extraordinaire.
Au niveau boissons, nous avons pris des softd et bières spéciales qui n’étaient pas fraîches et donc pénible à boire.
Le service quant à lui fut très basique et pourtant il y a peu de tables, c’était dur d’avoir un serveur. Le resto jouit s’en doute de sa bonne situation géographique et a oublié de servir correctement ses clients.

Le cadre est très classique mais les plats locaux servis en quantité suffisante et de bonne qualité.
Le service n’est pas 4 étoiles mais on y mange bien, c’est déjà ça. Le tout pour une vingtaine d’euros boisson + plat.

Des plats régionaux: carbonade, stoemp du jour, waterzoi…
C’est bon, mais pas toujours léger.
L e service est minimaliste, on né vous propose pas de table où s’installer…, mais assez courtois
Un petit restau de quartier ouvert tard, pratique.

Un restaurant qui vu de l’extérieur né paie pas de mine. L’intérieur est un peu rustique, le cadre est simple mais chaleureux. On y mange bien.
On y mange surtout des spécialités belges, comme des carbonnades, du stoemp, du lapin aux pruneaux, de la poularde à la Bruxelloise, etc.
Mais on peut également y manger un plat de pâtes, un steak, un américain frites, une salade et même des moules. Le soir, ils proposent une fondue bourguignonne.
Je vous conseille les croquettes de crevettes et le chicon au gratin.
L’avantage de ce restaurant c’est qu’on peut y manger à toute heure. Il est ouvert de 11h00 à 5h00 du matin.
