Huge. Somewhere between 1º00’ – 3º00’S and 61º30’ – 64º00’W. The Jaú National Park(«Parque Nacional do Jaú» in Portuguese) is located in the Amazonas state in Brazil, and is the largest National Park in Brazil(over 2M hectares) and they say it is the largest park in the world in tropical rainforest continuous and intact. Let’s just hope the beef industry doesn’t decide to clear this forrest too. They say its name derives from one of the largest Brazilian fish, Jau(the Tupi ya’ú), which is also the main river in the park. The peculiarities of this National Park is the fact that this is the only conservation unit in Brazil that fully protects the watershed of the Jaú preserving ecosystems of black waters. This park is an important exhibition of 400 species of plants… but that’s the Amazon for you.
