Tourist trap. The food is extremely overpriced and not good by any means. Among the dozens of restaurants I dined at in Rio this was by far the least authentic. The only plus of this restaurant is the option to dine outside as the views are spectacular. However, when my friend and I went to this restaurant the wait to dine outside was 90 minutes. Of course, that’s not the restaurants fault, but ultimately dining inside is not the ideal experience. As a side note, this restaurant is located INSIDE Copacabana Fort so, you must pay 6 reais to enter the fort and dine at this restaurant. No big deal though. With the current American conversion rate, 6 reais is like $ 1.50.

A Brasilien friend told me to have breakfast there. We went on a Monday and found out that the place was closed on Mondays. I went again the next day and it was just so spectacular! the views are to die for, we had the perfect table outside, the last table at the end. We had café con leche and also penne and smoked salmon sandwich. It was delicious. The service was good which I was not expecting to since the tables are so far from the actual restaurant/kitchen. This will definitely be a spot that I will go back!!! So glad my friend told me about it. The good thing is you can just keep walking after breakfast or lunch and if it’s late lunch like we did, we just walked to Arpoadqr and catch the sunset!

4 stars for the food and the view, –2 stars for the rest(it now does exist). To enjoy the view, you have to pay 6 $r first to enter the fort. Hum… Why not… Tourists right? Whatever… You then have to wait in the line of the Café Colombo. The girl who was working there wasn’t as efficient as she was supposed to be. This step consists mainly of trying to get your phone number. Once done(as foreigners, we didn’t provide any number), you have to choose between inside and outside(longer wait), then we chose inside. The night fell already, the view was good but not as interesting as when it’s day light(up to me). The girl announced 20min, and didn’t give us the vibrating blinking plastic stuff that says«hey, your turn, ruuuuuuuun»… Then we asked«how will we know when it’s ok to go in?»… She sat us on a bench next to her. We couldnt get a walk. Reminded me the«jail» while playing dodgeball as a kid. Well, till now, the experience looks like a basic tourists attraction, right? Hang on, it’s getting«better». While we’re going to this GREAT bench next to her, we notice 4 free tables of 2 inside, on the right. Since we’re positive people, we suppose that a lot of people has been waiting before us. We wait and have fun looking at how it really goes there… We notice that half of the plastic stuffs she gave to customers in order to wait is running out of batteries really quickly, being then totally useless and unefficient(I wouldn’t say«as the girl who gave them in a first place» but that’s what you thought… Yes you did!). Some other people, with enough batteries, give the stuffs back because they’re tired waiting over twice the time that they’ve been told… Tourists… They can’t enjoy life’s simple pleasures, as waiting… Oh by the way, it’s been 15min we’re waiting, the paradise is coming to us in 5min!!! Oh, wait… 15min, and nobody’s been called and sat inside, with half of the tables being free now… Why are we still waiting outside? Despite we’re sitting right next to her, we kind of suppose that the recepçao’s girl forgot that we exist, and it would take days until a smell reminds her we’re waiting here(days, I mean, I hope, we showered twice this day). Then we ask the guy who sits people why we’ve been waiting for over 15min when half of the tables are free. His answer was highly interesting and kind of epic, since«those are special tables»… Mmmmm we must be basic people, not special ones who deserve a special table, then we showed to him the other tables that he forgot to mention as special ones(10 seats, including 2 tables of 2, free from the first minute we came to this lovely place). He said he’s going to check if we could be placed. Guess what… We’re the next in line!!! Kind of a miracle. Actually, not really, we already were the next in line to go inside from minute 1, nobody went in, we had to wait 15min, bypass the girl, and show the guy we should be sitting inside for 14min, to make the dream come true. WENOWENTERTHEPLACE, THEDREAMCOMESTRUE. TRUE, but cold… Yes, it’s 35 °C out there but it 15 °C inside. I should have taken my coat this morning, I should have been anticipating that, my bad! My bad… I can’t say much about the interior design, since there’s not much interior design. Rococo lights on white walls. That’s it. The word that describes this one the best, compared to Confeitaria Colombo in downtown, is «sad». The waiter who was in charge of us was fast, efficient, focused. And we got lucky on this one, because other waiters seemed to be lost in this place, slow and unefficient… We ordered a 30 $r salad. Huge, big enough for 2 people. It was good. Chicken, meat raviolis, potatoes, salad, carots, apple, mayonnaise, cheese. Then we got a sundae. Big, ice cream was good. Not the best thing ever but it was ok, and we were getting hot in those 15°c… We left with mixed feelings. Sadness and happiness. Sad we had to go through this to get a meal(food was good), happy it was over and we can now leave. My advice, don’t go there. Unless you want to see what bad tourist business is.

I had already been to Colombo in Centro, but this was a whole different experience! Here, you can enjoy your lunch/coffee/pastry/all of the above while sitting out on the very end of Copacabana Beach, with the entire beach stretched out in front of you. This is about as good as it gets for atmosphere! They have a large menu, ranging from breakfast type foods to sandwiches and snacks. I got a salad, and I have to say it was one of the best salads I have found in Rio! Where this place really shines, however, is the desserts. Confeitaria Colombo is known for it’s pastries, and this location has a huge selection of them. Whether you go for an éclair, a tart, a cheesecake, or any of the other millions of options, you will surely be happy! It’s best to go during a weekday if you can manage. On the weekends you may end up waiting more than two hours for a table. To get to this restaurant, you must buy an admission ticket to the fort(R$ 6), but that’s really OK, because you can explore the fort and the museum as well! Vale a pena ir!

Well this place definitely lived up to the hype. If you want a filling breakfast with tons of carbs this is the place. They have set meals which include a plethora of breads, cheeses, meats, coffee, butter, jam and biscuits. They also have plenty of a la carte options so you can build your own breakfast. The variety of café is great and I would recommend the signature Colombo cappuccino, fancy and topped with whipped cream(chantilly). Be warned, come with a empty stomach and if you’re there on a Sunday morning be prepared to wait. It tools is nearly 2 hours to get a table for 4 people at 10am on a Sunday. They give you a buzzer that reaches most areas in the fort, so you can walk around while you wait. Note that the soldiers don’t allow people to sit in the outer retaining wall so look for benches if you need to rest your feet. You really can’t beat the views from Copacabana Forte and make you sure you take a walk around the fort since you have to pay for it just to get to the restaurant itself.

This place is great to stop by after walking on the beach and show your friends the view of Copacabana beach. The food is always good here but be prepared to wait for a table because all the tourists come here for coffee, desserts and the view. I still prefer the other Confeitaria Colombo in Centro for the whole Portuguese/Brazilian Colonial experience.

Duas estrelas é a minha nota.

This place gets 5. Stars for its gorgeous view, but one star for the service and food. The hostess was not that friendly, and the bathrooms were not clean; they were hot and smelly. The food was very poor. It was nothing special at all! You’d be better off going to a grocery store and feeding yourself. I do not recommend this place at all! I’d go to Manuel Joaquim in Copacabana. Much better place.

A fantastic place to stop for café com leite and a sweet treat. We had a 3 scoop sundae, a brigadeiro and some tortes. The view is unparalleled as you can take in the beauty of the ocean and Copacabana from your elevated perch.
