Nice atmosphere for a quick meal at a good price. We were leaving our friend’s home around lunch time and they highly recommended Manoel & Joaquim for lunch. They had two menus to order from — the executive lunch menu and the normal menu — we chose two dishes off of the executive menu and a side order of fries for our kids. We enjoyed our meals — my wife ordered a chicken parmegian and I had the beef cavalo. Service was very good for Rio de Janeiro, and about average for a U.S. restaurant. Food was served about 15 minutes after we ordered, which I think is very reasonable. Highest priced item on the executive menu was R$ 25, or about $ 8USD. Total spent for 2 meals, fries, 4 soft drinks and a 10% tip was R$ 80, or about $ 27USD. Bottom line, good food for a good price. Sorry, left my phone at home today, so no photos.

Cute little open air pub style establishment about three blocks from the beach in Ipanema. Fantastic service, food is a little hit and miss. We ordered the pizza calzone which was delicious and the calamari which I would not recommend. Calamari was heavily battered and a little fishy — if you’re used to the lightly battered style you get in the US, this will seem more like the batter they use on fried clams. The Italian sausage(check out my pic) was the highlight though. It was so good, we actually ordered a second one. And of course, being as immature as we are, we laughed at the enormous length and made a lot of dirty jokes as we ate it. Fun! The drinks are smaller here than most other places we’ve been but are strong. Caipirinhas were good, but we had better a couple blocks away at Porcao. The ambiance is nice with both indoor and outdoor seating. Prices are reasonable for Rio and like most restaurants in the city, they add a 10% service charge.
