Old and in need of renovation. Air conditioning does not work. No hot water. Construction noise. Bad food. All add up to an expensive crappy hotel worth skipping.

Stayed here the end of last year with the family. An average hotel from an infrastructure perspective. Location is not quite optimal(there is a 20ish minute walk to get the main beaches with some severe elevation changes). Service really sets this place apart. Breakfast on the top floor was very good and the servers were my boy’s best friends by the end of the trip. Cocktail hour in the SPG lounge was a must event as the bartender(room attendant) made great local cocktails(and mock tails). Note: This is probably obvious to most folks, but there are two Sheratons in the Rio area, so make sure your cab driver knows which one you want him to take you to. We ended up going way out of our way from the airport going to the wrong Sheraton initially.

I can’t believe this is an American hotel. I checked in and only 1 of my three suites my family had booked were available. Then it wasn’t even ocean view as all three were supposed to be. So I had to go up to my brothers room and wait 45 minutes for my luggage. The staff had told me the other two rooms would be ready at 445. One became ready at 530 and the other not till almost 10 pm!!! So my other birthed was displaced and had to move his luggage around three times before getting into his suite. The manager offered us lunch at one of the properties restaurants. Too bad one was closed and she didn’t tell us. The other one had an hr wait. And I didn’t want to eat chips and salsa in the lobby bar. So we ate at the pool which was terrible. Nothing was appetizing not even the French fries. To top it off we couldn’t get wifi bc we didn’t have a room number!!! Then we went down to leave for dinner and the money exchanged was closed and the atms didn’t work. What a disappointment and a waste of money. The front desk attendant put us in a cab from the hotel and said they take credit card. When he dropped us off at out dinner, he told us that he only took crEdit card at the hotel not in his cab at the destination!!! How were we supposed to know how much the ride would cost!!! Never again will I stay or recommend a Sheraton property anywhere.

Checked in at 11am… my room was occupied by someone else and had filth everywhere… went down to the front desk. the lady at the desk gave me a room on the 9th floor, my original room was on the 16th floor, and I asked for something higher up away from the noise. I was told it was the only thing available… lies. I went to the room, and of course like I predicted, could hear traffic, beach noise, loud music etc… called the front, requested a manager. someone name Lieda/Linda(whatever) answered. said she would have another room prepared for me… and would call right back…15mins passed. I called, nothing…20 mins later called again… nothing…I was so fed up I came downstairs at 12pm. she then scrambled to hand me a room key to some other room, saying she was just about to call me… smh unacceptable. I travel for work, and this was a very unpleasant experience.

First time I stayed at this hotel, I was impressed with the view and the fact that the hotel was located on the beach. Second time around, I was upgraded to a suite and truly enjoyed the club room at the top floor(26th floor). The view from the club room was magnificent — you get to see the favela, the beach and Cristo Redentor from one venue. The service at the front desk is as slow as turtle and I suppose that’s how life in Rio is.

We’ve stayed at many hotels, but this place has been one of thee best, the room was great, nice view of the beach, the costumer service is Great! All the rooms have balconies, you can sleep with the door open and hear the ocean. We dined at two of their restaurants there, the buffet, and the casual place next to the pool, both were Good! The pool is a very good seized pool. It was a Perfect pick for our Honeymoon.

Beautiful hotel that is a short distance from Cobacabana beach area. Here, the nearest community is Leblon — which is the most affluent area in Latin America — the home of the rich and famous. Also near the Leblon beaches — which are also very good. Copacabana is few short kilometers away — by cab. The hotel has a few restaurants. The breakfast buffet is weaker than most hotels. The other restaurants are typical hotel prices. The rooms are VERY comfortable. The towels a bit thin. It’s on a beach, and no matter which room you get you will here the waves crashing on the beach. Nice place!

Stayed here a few times on business, for a few nights each stay. There is a lovely breakfast with patio seating that is very nice looking over the beach. The fitness center is well equipped with weights, squat rack, machines, etc and with treadmills and elliptical over looking the ocean and pool area. Some of us enjoyed tapas one night at the restaurant/bar downstairs. It was just okay. Nothing noteworthy there. I will be back!

Uauuu!!! Sem palavras… O que falar desta vista?! Ela fala por si… Hotel maravilhoso, ótimo atendimento, confortável, ar super agradável, vista espetacular, sensação de está no paraíso, comida nada tão especial… mas saborosa. Lugar perfeito, dia perfeito!

Great place that is comfortable and easy to stay at. Better and cleaner than most similarly priced hotels in Copacabana(which is a short cab ride away). Staff is friendly and very helpful. I enjoyed all 3 of the restaurants at the hotel and the bartender ‘nicole’ at dry martini is awesome and easy to talk to(ask her to make you a passion fruit caiperhenia). The private beach is great and you don’t get harassed by people selling trinkets over and over again like they do on other beaches.

My husband and I stayed here a couple weeks ago only for a few nights. We were there on business as I had to give a speech in Sao Paulo so this was the vacation part of the trip. I wish we’d had a full week at this resort. They had recently renovated in preparation for the world cup which was over by the time we arrived. The lobby was gorgeous and the people at the front desk were very helpful. As Starwood members I thought we would be given a full ocean view room but the room we were given had a partial ocean view and the view from our bed was of the favelas(slums). I called downstairs and politely asked if we could be moved. They sent someone up to show us 2 different rooms, one on the 21st floor with a fabulous ocean view but a small standing only balcony. Then they showed us a room on the 3rd floor which I was excited to see after reading an earlier Unilocal review from someone who preferred the rooms on the lower floors. We were so glad we looked at this room. The room itself wasn’t as nice as the ones on the higher floors, but we had a huge balcony with a table and chairs and we were right over our own private cove and could hear and smell the ocean waves. We kept our sliding doors open all night and it was magical to drift off to sleep and wake up to the sound of the ocean. They recently opened a new martini bar and a fabulous buffet restaurant located near the pool. We ate at the Italian café near the pool one night and at the buffet another night. Service throughout the hotel was top notch. Nothing to complain about. The concierge was very helpful and gave us excellent instructions on how to take a public bus to the candelaria district. They also have a shuttle that goes back and forth between the hotel and Ipanema and Copacabana Beaches. We did sign up for a half day tour through the concierge which was perfect. We will definitely be returning to Brazil and will make it a point to stay here again.

I found this hotel pretty modern and nice. The rooms are clean. The location is a little far from the center, but there is a free hotel shuttle bus. Nice pool. Small beach. Overall, good stay.

While working as a consultant in Brazil and with a big client in Rio I usually stayed at the Sheraton Rio. I simply love this place for the great views, super nice people and good food. The rooms are pretty standard(they have been renovating over the last years the upper floors — starwood member floors) Check-in and check-out for regular customers tend to be a bit slow so leave some time for it. They have a special check-in spot just for Platinum members near the Platinum lounge which is super handy for your check-out(go have your breakfast while the friendly people at the desk do the check-out for you). Although the top floors are already renovated and are look nicer I prefer the ones on the 4th floor with the view on top of the water. They have a large balcony outside and it seems you’re just on the beach. By no means think the ones on the top aren’t nice either, just a different vibe. Prices for accommodation are super high but all Rio hotels are like that.

As you drive along Av. Niemeyer away from Ipanema and Leblon, the first large hotel you see is the Sheraton Rio. It is a huge white hotel on the Avenue but it looks like the outside has not had any renovation since the building was built. They are renovating the rooms in preparation for the World Cup and Olympics but overall the place still needs work. The internet is OK for the most part and the staff is friendly although most days my room wasn’t cleaned until after 12pm. There is a small beach at the hotel and a swimming pool but the real action is at Ipanema or Copacabana beach. The location is OK but not really walking distance to many places.
