I love Sofa Café! This is a popular spot among the tourists of Copacabana, as it provides food and service that you can’t usually find at cafes in Brazil. Lots of fancy coffee options, cappuccinos closer to what one might be used to in the U.S., and a quiet and nice place to do some work. Their wifi usually works, and the service is superb.

[NOTLGBTFRIENDLY] [BADSERVICE] The place is adorable. Really cute and comfortable. The service is very much below expectations. I sat on the table and the waitress immediately brought the menu. About half a minute later she asked if I wanted to order, to which I politely replied I wasn’t ready yet. However, she continued being insistent and I felt under a lot of pressure. I told her I was waiting for someone and she quit my table and passed it to somebody else. My girlfriend arrived and we were ready to order. The new waitress was rude, sarcastic, and our food was burned and cold. My milk was cold. This is one of the worst experiences I’ve had. When we asked for the check it took over fifteen minutes of her pretending not to see us while serving the table literally next to us. I reached for the first waitress and asked for the check again. When it arrived, she abruptly took my card from my hand!!! I took it back and told her to wait a minute because I haven’t had time to take a look at the check. I regret paying for the service. My girlfriend and I decided from now on we only pay for service if we are treated like human beings.

Nice place for hanging out and drinking lattes. We had two types of soups and they were really good.

Excellent coffee shop. The house blend pour over was superb and the waitress was super nice and very helpful. My first cup of coffee in Rio and I am more than surprise.

Found this place by walking around. A gem. Coffee and recovery drinks were excellent. We had the waffles with honey and butter, they were small, might have double that order next time.

I like it here as they take care with the presentation of your food, which is very tasty. The service isn’t bad either and the waiter was all smiles. Overall I spent a rather nice breakfast here with my friends and wouldn’t hesitate to return.

I’m updating my review because they seem to have fixed their wifi! In my original review, I commented that the wifi really didn’t work, but now it seems to be functioning perfectly. This is a nice café in Copacabana. It definitely has the most styles of coffee brews I’ve ever seen in Brazil. You can choose between French Press, Aeropress, Chemex(pour over), filter(via Hario V60), and all of the standard espresso varieties. The wait staff is super helpful and patient, and they are more than happy to explain to you their different roasts available as well as the differences in brewing methods. The only downside to their coffee is that even the French press and the pour over result in exactly a 8-oz serving, so you don’t get a whole full French press or Chemex like you get at many cafes in the U.S. I haven’t tried everything on their menu, but I personally love the waffles, they’re crispy and delicious, and you can choose between a variety of toppings(my favorite is honey & butter). It’s a perfect midday snack! With a whimsical colorful atmosphere, the décor is so well thought out that this café really almost seems out of place here in Rio. Where many cafes here seem to think of their interior design as an afterthought, here they have made it a priority. With plenty of table space and comfortable chairs, this is an excellent place to come and spend the afternoon working on a project. They also have some great desserts available and the rest of the menu, which includes soups and omelettes a and other light foods, looks amazing If you’re used to the comfy cozy cafes of the U.S. and want a place to get some work done, this is definitely your spot(as long as you don’t need wifi). It’s also a great place to come with a friend to have a relaxed conversation.

Beautiful café, with a number of popular slow brew methods(chemex, v60, Aeropress, French press) as well as espresso drinks, for us coffee nerds. I had a single serve Chemex(brewed at table but unfortunately not poured the typical way with a goose neck) and though a bit sour, still got a lot of great notes. Trying their espresso next!
