First thing that happens is that the bouncer hands you your drink card and writes R$ 15 on it. I’m used to paying covers to get into clubs, especially here in Rio, but this is supposed to be a pub? Immediately upon stepping into the place, I step directly into about 1 cm of water on the floor. The A/C is on full blast, and the unit is just pouring condensation onto the floor. The last thing you want to encounter in a dimly lit bar is a gargantuan puddle of liquid on the floor which apparently no one on the service staff seemed to find necessary to mop up. Maybe we had to pay because there was a band, but it must be noted that the band was playing really loud pop/punk rock music from the United States and didn’t know half of the words(being from the U.S., it was quite funny hearing them try to sing these songs in English). My friend and I, figuring we were in an Irish pub, each ordered a Guinness(each of which apparently cost R$ 18). Guinness is supposed to be poured in at least two steps to allow for the gas to settle properly, but this bartender just slammed the glass down on the counter and filled ‘er up(not even holding the glass at an angle), which meant the head was about 25% of the(already very small) glass. Perhaps they should take a look at this article: I tried to explain all of this to the cashier on the way out, at least trying to get my cover charge refunded, and even though I gave my best effort to be polite about it and spoke in(admittedly not perfect) Portuguese, they wouldn’t budge. Avoid at all costs. It is simply not worth it, and there are SO many better places to go in Copacabana.
