There’s a Mexican paleta craze in São Paulo and it seems you can’t turn the corner without finding an artisanal maker of the ice cream popsicles. Los Ticos is a small local chain and their newest outpost is a welcome addition to Vila Madalena. The popsicles here cover a number of flavor profiles: creamy(cremosos), stuffed(rellenados), fruity(frutados), specialty(especiales) and hot(calientes). While you can easily find a mango or watermelon pop, you’re probably going to be more interested in flavors like, El Tropical(pairing açai with banana) or Puerto(yogurt with port wine). I went with the filled variety of banana stuffed with nutella and it certainly hit the spot. I did however find the nutella a little overpowering, less is more sometimes. Similarly, you can get strawberry stuffed with condensed milk or a creamy pistachio. I skip the ice cream and head right for the paleta.
