Lotusland Vineyards

The odd thing about this review is it is probably more about the experience than the wine. There are some really unique range of tastes going on here from the Girlsmeaner to the Ortega and the Devil’s Spit. Personally, the Blushing is my favourite. I found the wines a little off putting to be honest. They tasted really alcohol heavy which to me obstructed the background flavours which were really interesting. My sister on the other hand loved everything.
On our way out we bumped into the owner and had a long conversation about what he was trying to do and how they came to be. It was eye opening to say the least. They are an old school style winery, biodynamic and process wine in the old school way. This results in a wine that does not taste like most middle stream wines.
Anyway, my point is, come here for something different. You may or may not like the wines, but the experience is well worth it. And if you like dogs… this is your place.

Yes, Leliah is right– the Ortega is worth a visit– it’s a lovely little wine. The owners are terrific and friendly, and they offer a tannin-​free red wine which is very unusual, but good. They make wine with a lot of unusual varietals– I’ll be back.
