Burnaby Hobbies

I used to go to a hobby shop in Richmond until I found my Burnaby Hobbies. Lesser selection of items but I found everything I need. The two guys running the place were very helpful and accommodating.

Several years ago, this place was amazing, but not ever since ownership changed. While they have an exceptional selection of supplies and products, what truly ruined it for me was their service. The fact that I’m writing this review 7 months later just proves how memorably terrible their service was. The man that works there is a condescending elitist.
I walked into the store with my RC helicopter looking for a replacement battery, and he had the nerve to insult me, scoffing «why would you think WE would have parts for THAT?». He continued to insult me by saying my helicopter was not «hobby grade» and began to rant how he hated these parents and noobs who buy these «cheap toys» from places like Best Buy and Toys R Us and expect to find replacement parts from a hobby store. I literally could not believe what I was hearing. He then proceeds to ignore me and begins chatting with what I assume was a regular customer.
Didn’t even offer me suggestions on what to do.
I took my business to Norburn Hobbies instead and was treated much better.
Don’t buy from Imperial Hobbies. This man does not deserve your business.

Really helpful staff. I was buying my first model rocket and helped me get everything I needed. Great selection of plastic models, bought a couple snap together ones for my son.

It’s been a very long while since I shopped for model airplanes and rockets, but I took my younger son to this place today and I was impressed. We received a warm greeting when we came through the door, we found a good selection of products, and the customer service was top drawer. We’ll definitely be taking our business here again.

Back in the day when my parents owned a model shop on 666 kingsway (30, we would send our customers here if we didn’t have what they were looking for.
The old man is gone, but his son carries the torch and does the store justice– very knowledgeable and always ready with advice on a project.

A great little place full of model planes and figures. You can often find what you’re looking for at Burnaby Hobbies for a decent price depending on how rare the item is. It of course can’t compare to online prices since there’s an overhead store/​rent, but it’s only a few bucks more. It’s nice to be able to look and touch the collectable in person too. They sell paint for your figurines here and that’s what we came here to purchase last time.

A decent selection of paints, materials and kits. Burnaby hobbies is a good place to pick up the basics. Friendly staff and customers who are full of advice if you know what you’re looking for.

Not very impressed with the level of service with these folks. Then again I shouldn’t expect much from these guys, or should I considering that most of business goes towards online businesses.
I find it interesting that in this competitive market, you find folks give poor customer service and show a disinterest in helping you. When I finally did get help it was satisfactory at best.
I don’t know if I was dismissed based on my younger appearance as I do not fit the typical hobbyist look. Perhaps based off my assumption that this is why I was not treated very well. This also has to do with a lack of follow up and a sense of arrogance based off my perception of these guys.

One of the last old-​school hobby shops in Metro-​Vancouver. I’m talking a multi-​generational, family run resource for the scale model and RC enthusiast.
This is a busy and well supported store stocking all sorts of cutting edge tools, paints and products. The shelves feature a collection of unusual and out of production kits in a variety of scales include a surprising selection of ¹⁄₇₂ scale subjects.
Burnaby Hobbies is a good spot to start whether you are just cutting your first sprue or looking to get involved with the local chapter of the International Plastic Modellers Society.

A model lovers dream come true for models of airplanes, ships, and cars. It’s hard to believe, but this little store in Burnaby has been around for over 30 years.
I know that plastic models aren’t popular these days, and I don’t assemble them anymore because I’m all grown up. However, I’ll assemble one if I get one as a gift. Yep, this is where people bought gifts for me for my birthday or during Christmas time.
Burnaby Hobbies has a large selection of unassembled plastic models from North America, Europe, and Asia. They also sell RC airplanes and puzzles too.
Prices are a little higher than what you’ll find elsewhere online, but if you don’t want to pay shipping and duties, this is the great place to get your goods.
