Cattle Cafe

I’ve never tried Cattle Café and since the Richmond location was closed and we were near Metrotown, we decided to head over for lunch. Cattle Café is your typical HK style café food and I would say it’s quite similar to Deer Garden. I found the seating and interior to be quite modern and clean compared to many Chinese restaurants.
S got one of their classics which is the Sliced Beef in Satay Soup with Hand-​squeezed Fish Noodles. The noodles have a nice chew because they are made from fish. I liked the satay soup which was slightly spicy but not overbearing. I’d definitely order this dish next time!
For myself, I ordered the Mixed Meat & Fish Balls with Flat Noodle Seaweed Soup. You get some pork, meat, and fish balls as well as fish tofu. The broth is quite strong in fish and seaweed flavour. Not bad.
Overall, Cattle Café is a good option for quick HK style food. I found that prices weren’t the cheapest with each dish still costing at least $ 9 and the portions being a little on the smaller side. I find the portions at Deer Garden to be much larger. Service is quick and to the point so don’t expect any more.

Insanely rude. Hardly any service or reply. Doesn’t lead u to your table. Just told me to sit somewhere. Food is decent but with these kinds of employees, it’s gonna close down. I miss the Richmond Cattle Café so much. Their service was so much better than this café! O and they didn’t give us any chopsticks or anything, even a napkin… when all our food came, we had to ask for those… r they assuming we r gonna eat with our hands?

This placed used to be okay, but it has gone downhill in the past year. The last time I went, the server took my order and missed an item when serving. When bringing it her attention, she acknowledged as if it was nothing unusual. She later brought out the missing item. When paying for the meal, I noticed an extra item was charged when indeed they missed it in the first place. When explaining it to the server, she denied that the item was missed and insisted that the bill was right. No point of arguing over some small change, I will never come back to this location. There are other options in the area with better quality of services and food.

Noodles are always good. Staff are friendly. The steak my friend ordered wasn’t so good. Don’t order steak! Good place for a quick meal.

Sorry to hear that Cattle Café may be closing more locations. The food is hearty, tasty and quickly served.

Highly NOT recommended. I am Asian and I love eating at their first location in Richmond. However the service at the Edmonds location is completely pathetic. If you come here you’d be paying to get shit faced, literally.
The waitress mis-​ordered the wrong plate for me, instead of apologizing or simply asking if it was OK for me to have this instead, she made it clear that it was my fault and I should’ve been more clear in my ordering, when in fact, I have pointed to a picture that was half of the page.
I will never come back to this location at all. Their service is a disgrace to the food scene in Burnaby.

The mini mushroom pork chop on rice for $ 8 is the most pathetic item I’ve ever tried at Cattle. I would give 0 stars if I can.

So many good items here, the soups are amazing and better than most Phở in Burnaby. The different broths make it great for vegetarians who don’t want a chicken broth base. Some of the meals have a $ 1 cold drink add on, and the bubble waffle is a fantastic desert.

Wow, this place has totally gone downhill from what I remember. It used to be OK, but they changed over a few things just 2 weeks ago, upping the prices, bringing in new bowls, and I’m sure a few different things.
The new bowls have really wide rims, but the actual bowl is a bit smaller. The overall amount of noodles that you get is a bit smaller. The prices have been upped to $ 9.xx. The taste of the build your own noodle bowl, and the chiu chow noodles are pretty bland — maybe b/​c I know I’ve def had better by a landslide at other places (ie: Deer Garden Signatures).
I haven’t tried their other meals, but since these noodles seem to be their selling point — its pretty weak, so I don’t think I“ll be coming back here to try anything else.

Another HK style café, affordable qual;ity foods. Now i know why this place is always busy and frequently visited. Service is good cgrews speak bi lingually, despite its a bit busy when i came service remains fast and effecient., I love the idea of them putting cattle café loge on their plates, napkins etc… it adds on the restaurant appeal to its clientele… mostly asian inside but noise level is average, clean place and free parking… so hungry that i didnt check if theres wifi… Interior designs is so simple which for me its kinda classy, Good for family, group and kids… I had the deep fried squid, and the beef brisket curry with rice… and seriously this is one of the best beef curry i ever had… my $ 20 bucks including my tip goes along long way… ill be back soon to try more of their dishes… neat restaurant… far from my place but worth the drive… NI-​HAO

I ordered the Pork Chop & Fried Egg in Teriyaki Sauce with Rice. This was a sizeable dish coming with exactly what is given in the name. The teriyaki sauce was sweet and covered enough of the dish so I didn’t have to worry about having a bite of plain rice. The egg came easy over and had a suitable amount of yolk to run over the chicken and rice. The chicken was pretty tender too and was easy to break into pieces. Meals come with a cold drink option for a dollar so I got a Lemon Iced Tea. A tried and true classic, this came with sliced up lemon which mixed very well with the sweet drink. All in all nothing too special about the food here (including the noodles) but nothing bad either which should mean eating here is a-​okay.

I found a hair in my food on the second bite. Luckily I watched them throw away the batch and made me a new one. The kitchen staff does not have proper apparel for handling with food (no hair nets) as I can see right into the kitchen. I’m disappointed about this — and should be a concern about how food is handled.

I have officially been to all the Cattle Café in town, and I can honestly say, they are all the same. I didn’t personally find one better than the other. I enjoy putting together my own bowl, but find I’m always having the same thing.
If you want something different, order the fish noodles.

The restaurant updated its menu since the last time I visited. I am happy with the menu selection and the food options have extended beyond the pick your noodle, soup and toppings combos. The menu has photos for all their food items. If you are not familiar with HK style café food, you have an idea of what your food is suppose to look like.
Be warned that the English service is on the weaker side. We had to repeat different messages for our server to understand «no green onions, no cilantro,» or «no green» as she seemed lost at that request initially for the noodle soup. I ordered a mini baked pasta dish and ended up with a sandwich. I sent it back and got the correct item that I wanted to eat. Also, my mini baked pasta came with a drink. Because of the initial confusion of a sandwich, our server changed us for the drink. We notified her and she was able to rectify the bill. I do not know how she made that mistake as I was pointing to the picture of my pasta dish and speaking to her in English… at least she got the correct drink.
Food is good quality as I would expect from Cattle Café for the price they charge. They used good cuts of beef briskets. I do not recommend their Japanese style chasu. There is a reason why people eat at ramen shops. Ramen shops usually make the pork better. However, they are generous with the amount of meat toppings. The free XO sauce that accompanied the noodle soup was more chilli sauce than XO. I cannot complain much as it was free. The baked pasta was a filling small portion. There was plenty of sauce and a few slices of tomatoes.
Parking space is limited and you are lucky if you find a spot during the busy hours. We came here after 9pm and managed to get the last parking spot.

In this Joyce area, so many Asian options like Honolulu Café and Congee House, all in the same price range; I do find CC here a lot more cramped than its Richmond location. Yet, it’s quite nice décor, almost like a BBT lounge but last time I was here, the seats really needed some re-​doing.
And the parking lot plaza here is quite compact so you’ve been forewarned about door dings, and that’s if you’re lucky to find a spot. There’s like 4 other restos here too.
Food and prices are decent.

This place has poor ventilation. Whenever I walk in, the first thing I notice is how stuffy it is and I also notice a strong smell (kitchen smell) that isn’t very pleasant.
Pretty small restaurant. The tables are crammed next to each other which makes it even more stuffy and worse.
They are not as accommodating as Deer Garden. My boyfriend, who has a peanut allergy usually orders the laksa at Deer Garden and can enjoy it without any problem but at Cattle Café, we were told to switch his soup base to the boring chicken broth when we notified the waitress about his allergy. This just shows that they don’t actually know what their food contains.
The laksa was extremely spicy… a bit too spicy to the point where I couldn’t enjoy the soup. I had to remove most of the hot spicy oil out. My stomach felt a bit uneasy like it was burning.
I usually order sliced beef briskets and fish puffs when I go to these type of restaurants. They only give you a few pieces of the sliced beef briskets, majority of the beef was fat. The fish puff was a bit tough, seemed more like fish balls. It’s very different from Deer Garden. Deer Garden’s fish puffs are soft and juicy because it soaks up the soup base.
As for drinks, we both ordered «specialty drinks» for $ 2 additional. I ordered the Oreo milkshake and the boyfriend ordered honey green milk tea. The Oreo milkshake was mostly ice. It would’ve been better if they added more milk because after a few sips, it turned dry. The honey green milk tea tasted like it was made from powder and it was way too sweet.
I personally prefer Deer Garden over Cattle Café because:
— Locations are more spacious, better ventilation
— They are more accommodating when it comes to ordering and ensures that the food does not contain any ingredients that customers are allergic to. They actually prepared my boyfriend’s laksa separately from everyone else just to be sure
— Their drinks are in take-​out cups and their drinks are quite delicious.
feel that Cattle Café is usually a hit or miss… and this time, it was a big MISS!

Love this place! I love the fish noodles with extra fish noodles.
The chicken curry is delicious too. Also a few of the other soups are great too.
To drink I’ll order to passion fruit coke. So tasty!
It’s cash only so be prepared for that.
The menu is huge but I try to stick with what I know is delicious. But I’m quite interested in other items.

This is definitely one of my go-​to HK cafes to go to! Warning: the one located on kingsway and Tyne has REALLY BAD insulation so bring a jacket in case you’re sitting next to a window. Or else, you will most likely die of hyperthermia.
I particularly like their do-​it-​yourself noodle dishes! I usually get Thai tom yum soup with ramen noodles (extra 50 cents), with beef or chicken balls and enoki mushrooms. The portions are quite big and it comes with a drink too!
I also like getting a side order of their bubble waffles, just nice to have something a bit sweeter on the side.
Overall, I like this place! Just your average HK café but it’s super convenient to get to since there are multiple locations (Kingsway/​Tyne, Metrotown, Edmonds area)

I’ve never been huge on HK cafes, but this one I like. First time I had fried pork chop rice combo which comes with a hot drink. Very average but filling and cheap.
This time around I found a winner. Go for the noodle combo and make it dan dan style with beef brisket and beef tendon. Huge portion, wicked broth and ample cow meat. Almost laksa-​like. I barely finished. Price tag? $ 7.95 for the combo! I also opted for a side of chicken wings (3) for $ 1.50. Crispy, seasoned poultry joy.

I can’t believe how fast the Cattle Café chain is growing.
I thought to myself, another Cattle Café on Kingsway? How can they have that much business since this will be the 3^rd one on Kingsway? I decided to try this location for lunch and since I got there right when it opened, there were only a few other tables. By the time noon hit, the place was packed!
You can expect a very filling and satisfying meal here without spending too much. For 2 people, we only spent $ 22 including tax and tip which included 2 heaping bowl of noodles and 2 drinks. I couldn’t finish my noodles.
The noodle combo allows you to choose:
–type of broth
–type of noodles
–2 types of toppings
–1 drink
The only type of broth they currently have that does not contain MSG is the fish broth.
