The layout of the Mic Mac Chapters is much different from the Bayers Lake location, and not in a good way. While this store certainly seems to have more actual books (and fewer giftie things), good luck trying to find what you’re looking for. For some reason, the knitting books were under gardening. Go figure. I also don’t think staff take much time to neaten shelves; books were tossed willy-​nilly on top of others and in the wrong sections.
Kids books take up half the store. The Starbucks is huge and eats up more book space. A young woman was permitted to bring her large (like, golden Lab) puppy into the store. I guess if you have young children, a dog and a penchant for coffee, you’ll really like this location. Me? I just wanted to find a book.
I’ll stick with the Halifax location.

Chapters is run by smart people. It’s one of those rare cases among stores where the big guys get it just right. Where else can you go into a huge store and feel right at home.
I like the way the store is broken into sections, with the kids stuff on one side, the adult stuff on another, and back in the middle are business and hobby books. I like that the Starbucks is built in. I mean, why make me walk outside for a cup of coffee? Why not have a great coffee shop and a great bookstore and not compromise on either? And it closes at ten oors — not nine like most stores.
One small warning — the staff here are very geeky. (That’s how you know it’s a REAL bookstore!) This can be irritating sometimes, like when a well meaning staffer tries to convince me that some vampire book would totally be to my liking. But if you find the right geek they’re a knowledgeable and helpful bunch.

A pretty typical Chapters. A book lovers paradise. I can spend hours in any Chapters. They have awesome selection of anything you are looking for. Also carry boardgames, kids toys and other cool trinkets. My only complaint is the cashes tend to always be busy with very few cashiers. Other than that, A+.

I know it’s a big box store, but I love just about any bookstore, and this Chapters is no exception.
The store itself is bright and airy and has a great selection of books, magazines, toys, gifts, games and more. I also dig that there is a Starbucks attached, I have fond memories of sucking back giant frappuccinos there with friends when I was in high school, and it always makes the store smell delicious.
I really enjoy the staff here, they are friendly and most of them seem truly passionate about books. It’s no Shakespeare and Company, but I can still happily spend a couple of hours in here.

Books, Kobos, Cookbooks, Magazines, and a Starbuck’s all together is Chapters. Since I like all of the above, this place works for me and a place I have been to frequently. Now that I have a Kobo I might not be there as often, but I will still find reasons to take a look around.
The staff is generally helpful if you engage with them, they are always friendly at the checkouts.
They have a really good selection of cookbooks, which are a particular favorite of mine.
I will continue to be back here for a quick fix of books.

I could spend whole day just stay in Chapters to explore the books! Such a great store! Especially like their bookmarks!
But sometimes I couldn’t get the book I want in store, and have to order them online, which is less fun for me…

I’ve got to say, I do like Chapters. Well, I like pretty much any bookstore so considering that Chapters is a huge one not far from my house, it’s at a pretty good advantage.
Since their renos, I think the big-​boxiness has actually gotten a lot nicer and the place feels like a spot you can actually spend some time. I’m typically drawn to the back section with biographies, comedies, travel, and pop culture-​y stuff. But that’s also because I find the fiction section a little unmanageable to navigate.
Mostly though, I just love all the random, non-​book things they’ve crammed in the front section. From uppity office supplies to nice gift options, there’s a ton of stuff that nobody needs but everybody wants. And that’s my kind of shopping.
I generally find you can score most of the books here for cheaper at different locations but that does involve some work on your part. For example, kid’s books consistently cost less at Tattletales. Just a heads up!

I love reading and I love buying and collecting books. Chapters is a great place to buy books of all kinds. The prices are reasonable and I love their discounted sections. I also love the chapters online website as you can find their books even cheaper online and either have them shipped to you or pick them up in store. When I was in university, I often bought my textbooks at Chapters because they were much cheaper than at the University bookstore. The computers that they have in the aisles are also very helpful and I often use them — the hand sanitizer nearby is a plus!
My only issue is that I wish they had a Chapters near the theater in Dartmouth Crossing, as that is something I enjoyed about Chapters in Bayers Lake. This location is close enough to the mall that you do not have to drive over to it, just come out of the Bay doors and walk over!

Having worked for the company I may be a little biased, but I love Chapters. Although I enjoy my fair share of used books (and the deals), nothing beats the smell of a new book. In the last six months they have renovated the children’s section and have a nice toy/​games selection. I definitely appreciate the huge selection of Lego and Playmobile. I still love that stuff. The Dartmouth store is pretty much like every other chapters complete with the Starbucks.
I really like the irewards program because the deals were better or equal to my former employee discount. It’s a good deal if you buy more than one book a month, especially if you like bestsellers. Otherwise I don’t have many Chapters related complaints. Always check for deals online, because many times the online price is cheaper or there are online only sales.
The only major problem I have with the store is that I could spend all day in there browsing the stacks. For the love of God why did they put those comfy chairs in there?! Don’t even try to take those books in the bathrooms either, they have a very stern sign against this.
A few times a year, usually around the holiday season Chapters has a major sale where all books are 30% off or all hardcovers are 40% off. Definitely a sale to take advantage of.

I love going to Chapters to kill some time. It’s a nice clean environment and nice an quiet compared to a mall setting. They have a large selection of books and computers scattered around to help you find a book or author you’re looking for. For the most part it’s quicker to go to a computer first unless you’re just browsing or know exactly where the book you want is placed.
They have a nice selection of manga and graphic novels as well if that’s what you’re looking for.
There’s also a Starbucks attached to Chapters so it’s a good quiet place to meet someone or if you want to sit and read the books you just bought.

A great way to spend time: browsing the books (and other items) at the Dartmouth Chapters.
I always used to favour the Halifax store but this store has a special place in my heart now.
The store has a huge selection of books and many great deals! $ 2 books? Yes, please! It’s petty rare that I go there and manage to resist the urge to buy something. Their bargain books section isn’t huge (I love a good deal) but has an interesting variety. If you’re into graphic novels, they have a great range of titles. The Kids section is also quite well-​developed.
An in-​store Starbucks also compliments this location nicely. They have free wi-​fi and plenty of room to sit and enjoy some conversation with friends.

I can’t decide if I like the Halifax or D-​town location better. Sure, some may say «they’re exactly the same — it’s a huge chain, dummy,» but alas, the subtleties are where I thrive, my friend.
Both Starbucks locations at these Chapters are forever busy, pumping out the java just as fast as the patrons, frothing at the mouth with blood shot eyes, can lap it up. I think the Dartmouth location offers a more relaxed sitting vibe and also seems like there is more attention paid to details, such as cleanliness.
As for the actual factuals of this Chapter’s location? I feel like it’s more familiar. It just seems more relaxed overall. I know, around the holidays it’s a mad house, but on the average day, I’ve enjoyed sitting in the aisles and pouring over words undisturbed. Don’t you just love that you can read, like it’s a library or something?
There are some long time employees at this location, and their service can be pretty great. I feel like a lot of the workers here are bibliophiles which makes shopping here far and away more fun than the Hali locale. So, there you have it. I proclaim Dartmouth the victor. Three cheers to you, large bookstore.

Chapters, we love Chapters. It really can be a great outing. Everyone has their own favourite section and spends plenty of time there.
We make good use of the computers to look up the name of the book we are looking for, they are very user friendly and touch screen.
The staff here, seem like walking encyclopedia’s, they just seem to know everything about books.
I always stop and have a look at the gift section with the great funky items.
And of course we always grab a coffee and hot chocolates.

I’m a bit of a bookworm, so when my boyfriend shops with me he knows that I set aside a few hours to browse through whichever bookstore is handy. Chapters in Dartmouth (which is a part of the Mic Mac Mall), usually fits the bill perfectly and even combines book hunting with another of my favorite things, caffeine!
Starbucks and Chapters have their usual partnership in this location, but be forewarned that the Starbucks is one of the busiest I’ve ever been in, line waiting is inevitable.
Browsing is easy with clearly labeled shelves and the handy book searches available on the public computers. The inventory of books, magazines, games, CDs, DVDs, gifts and small home decorations is massive. Due to the large amount of stock and the general public’s lack of knowledge about the ins and outs of the dewy decimal system, the staff have to be very keen and helpful which is perfect because they are.
Hot Hint: Don’t be afraid to ask to have any book that isn’t in stock order in for you.

Chapters is a great place to go to on a Sunday for some RR and have a hot chocolate at Starbucks that adjoins Chapters. Sometimes it is nice just to go out and look at all the different items that they have. There is a great gift section that offers small gifts such as candles anywhere between $ 10-​$ 15 which I find a bit pricey in general and I really don’t know why candles needs to be. As well there is a variety of general boardgames and stuffed animals. There were many times that Chapters has saved me with getting a presents as they offer gift cards for that last minute shopper.
Each section at Chapters is divided into titles so that you are able to find what you are looking for easily. Once you find your title everything in these sections are alphabetized which makes it very easy to help shop what you are looking for. If you are not able to locate something on the shelf they give you access to a computer to be able to look a title up yourself. Like me if you can’t do that then the staff are amazing at Chapters and if not in stock they will order the book in for you.

Whether you’re looking for a book, boardgame, gift or CD, Chapters has it all. With a huge selection and knowledgeable staff — there literally is something for everyone.
With comfortable lounge chairs, and an adjoining Starbucks Coffee Shop, people can enjoy Chapters’ books at their leisure while savouring on their favorite coffee, chai or latté.
