Remember when internet cafes were all the rage, there was no such thing as wi-fi or smartphones and you actually had to go somewhere and pay to use some clunky computer? Café Dabar reminds me a bit of those days, but in a very good way. Yummy coffee, excellent cinnamon buns that taste homemade, nice staff, and a great place for people-watching. What more could I ask for! Plus I can reminisce about the early 00s(aforementioned factors!).

Love this place. I go here as often as I possibly can because the coffee is amazing and the seating is comfortable, the internet is free and the service is awesome.

In addition to computers snug in the back of this coffee shop, wireless is reliable here(although you have to ask for the password) plus plug-ins — so many plug-ins! Hallelujah! Seating all around is very comfy, with a big set of couches in the middle to accommodate a larger group. The owner here was really friendly, and stumped me on the weekly trivia written on a chalkboard behind the counter. Can’t wait to go back next week for a great cup of coffee and to try to solve the next riddle.

Large mochas on Mondays are Medium size priced! You heard it here first folks! And by large, I really mean large. Café Dabar is a clean and quiet pit stop or lounge out with quick wi-fi and plugs — hooray. For me, it screamed«hang out for a while!» And hang out I did. Working through the afternoon with very little background noise to distract me and ended up staying and catching up with a friend. Awesome afternoon indeed. It surprised me to see an internet café area in the back, but people were plugged into desktops and surfing so I guess it works. What I really wanted to do was sink into one of the leather armchairs tucked in behind the bar, possibly armed with a good read!

Great local coffee shop! This has popped up since I left the city a few years ago and it’s a great addition to Whyte! I love finding non-chain shops and this is a great one to hang out and catch up with friends or get some work done. Wi-Fi with a minimum purchase. They do have computers on site as well that involve an additional fee. Nice seating options from tables to comfy chairs and nice table spacing. Great mix of cold and hot drinks and a nice selection of basic coffees… loved my hazelnut one at less than $ 2 a cup! How can you go wrong with that?

Café Dabar really reminds me of cetral perk on Friends. There have been some other café’s that have reminded me of it as well but this place is more so than others. They have comfortable seating, chairs and couches, and they also have wireless internet. It is a nice little place to come and relax or get some work done. If you don’t have your laptop with you they have computers that you can use. You have to pay for those though. It is not uncommon to find a group of friends taking over the couches and just chatting away. A great spot to study or to meet up with a friend.

What can I say about Café Dabar?! This is the best coffee shop on Whyte Ave. Full of big comfy chairs and sofas, the atmosphere is amazing. There is always some hip, but slow music playing, lights are dimmed and for the most part, people do their own thing(chat, study, surf the ‘net). I go to study at Dabar because a hot cup of tea gives me free wireless Internet for my laptop all night! There are also computers in the back that are available(but those ones cost money). The staff is always friendly too; I have had some great conversations with a few of them. I can’t say enough good things about this shop. The prices of drinks are similar to other specialty coffee shops. Oh ya, Dabar has good food too. My favorite thing to eat there is a tuna melt, followed by a big gooey cinnamon bun. .. mmmmm.

Café Dabar is definitely one of Whyte Avenue’s most underrated hangouts. Many come here to use a computer(available for a low cost) or to access WiFi while they sip one of the freshly made coffee drinks or smoothies. The atmosphere is calm and quiet, and the drinks are lower in price than similar ones at other establishments. I often go for an iced latte, a regular coffee(fair trade of course), or whatever the daily special happens to be. Lots of comfy chairs, tables, clean washrooms — a really cool place. There is even a church that meets in the café on Sunday evenings.

I think I have found my new favorite place on Whyte Ave! I’m actually writing this review as I sit here in Café Dabar. It’s a wonderful little place to come and spend an afternoon, whether you need to get some work done or just want to surf the internet. They have free wifi available with a minimum purchase of $ 3.00(guess it’s not entirely free), and several computers in the back of the café if you don’t have your own. It’s a really quiet place, because everyone is either on their computer or reading a book. There are books, magazines, and newspapers, and a deck of cards and chess set too. They have drink specials everyday, and today it’s just my luck — chai latte! You can get a large one for the price of the small. And this is one of the best chai lattes I’ve ever had, hands down. It’s smooth and creamy, with lots of cinnamon so it’s nice and spicy. They have plenty of small tables here, both for individuals and small groups. There are black leather couches and suede armchairs too, with coffee-tables for a more cozy feeling. It’s a really comfortable atmosphere, I love it. The music is a variety of soothing jazz, blues, indies and soul. The staff are also really great. If you need to hook up to the wifi, just let them know and they’ll give you the password. They will also bring your order over to you when it’s done. When the door is closed, you can’t even hear the busy Whyte Ave traffic outside. It feels like I’m in my own living room here, only I’m not. And it’s decorated better. I can definitely see myself coming here on a regular basis!
