Description

Spécialités

The YMCA is a legally registered charity, including our gyms, and no one is turned away for the inability to pay. Please do not hesitate to ask at Member Services if you need financial assistance to access any of our facilities (including our 49 Child Cares or to send a kid to one of our Day Camps).

We’ve been an entirely independent Edmonton charity for 109 years, including our Health, Fitness & Aquatics Centres, Summer Camps and Day Camps, Child Care Centres, Community Program Centres, Housing Centres and Service and Programs Centres. All Northern Alberta donations stay in Northern Alberta.

Historique

Fondé en 1998.

It took incredible leadership to bring a family centre to Castle Downs. The community strongly advocated for a YMCA to be built in Castle Downs. In addition, the YMCA of Northern Alberta forged a partnership with the city and other communities in Edmonton. In 1995 the YMCA of Northern Alberta launched the largest capital campaign in its history -$ 14.4 M for two family YMCAs. The CDRS committed to raising $ 250,000 for a YMCA in Castle Downs and exceeded its goal by raising $ 310,000. They accomplished this while raising $ 200,000 towards a playground in the park – generating these funds was a tremendous «stretch goal» for the community. The end result was the start of construction of the Castle Downs Family YMCA in June 1997 and a grand opening on June 20, 1998.
