Elite Event At Daffodil Gallery

This was my first Unilocal Elite event and Karen at the Daffodil Gallery did a fantastic job putting it on. This is such a great little gallery featuring Canadian artists. I found a lot of the art affordable as well as very nice. They also had some great jewelry pieces and cards. I will definitely stop by here again the next time I am wandering 124^th on my own «Art Walk».

Karen at The Daffodil Gallery recently hosted this Unilocal event that I had the pleasure of attending. What a nice lady! Although I was not there to shop art, I certainly saw a couple of pieces that interested me and will be planning a trip back in the near future. Great little addition to 124^th St!

I totally enjoyed my time! It’s not easy to have a really fun event at a place like an art gallery. Karen, the owner of the gallery, was friendly and it was wonderful to see her open her space to us Unilocalers.
With soft, Christmasy piano music playing, strong drinks shaken on the fly by Michael J. and wonderful Unilocalers in awesome sweaters getting their photos taken in the «photo booth», it was a memorable event for sure. This is my second event at Daffodil and I must say that the owners really know how to use their space for events. Even though it’s a long room, with expensive art on walls and in display cabinets, there was ample space created to move around and have chitchats with fellow Unilocalers.
The after party at Brewsters was also wonderful! It was great to see 20 – 25 Unilocalers storm into this local brewery enjoying the industrial pints and eats.

Elite events at coffee shops and restaurants and such are probably an easier sell than something at an art gallery. After all, the restaurant can stuff you with food and make you fat and happy and send you on your way to your laptop to use your newly fat fingers to say nice things about them. An art gallery is more of a test. I mean, how do they woo you? How do they convince you that you had a good time? You can’t eat art. You can’t drink art. You have to more honestly appraise what the place has to offer. In the case of this event, there was great mixing and conversation in a welcoming space. A wonderful open bar, which helped with the great mixing and conversation in a welcoming space. Live piano music. Pleasant conversation with the owner. Very nice to see Unilocal promote a place devoted to consumption for the soul rather than the stomach. Only downside: I would have liked to have heard more about the exhibition and the gallery from the owner.
As for the place itself: nice location next to DLish and in the gallery neighbourhood. Well lit, airy, unimposing. Good selection of art. I liked it. How Daffodil will distinguish itself or make itself known remains to be seen, but so far it’s doing the right things. Perhaps consider wine tasting next door at DLish on a Tuesday, then drunkenly showing off for your patient date by taking her here and saying such winning things as «That’s a Renoir, you can tell by the brush strokes» and «Baby, your hair looks really pretty today».
