If you’re looking for Disney merchandise in Edmonton, this is likely the place you want to visit. It has as good of a Disney selection as you’re going to find and while selection turns over pretty quickly depending on what Disney properties are the current focus for Disney marketing, there are quite a number of different gift items available especially if you’re buying for a child. It becomes more difficult to shop here if you are shopping for an adult of course, but even so there are a number of options available at any given moment. I do like how helpful the staff members are here and the fact that there is a small clearance area that you can search through and maybe find some deals depending on for what you are searching. I only wish that there was a greater selection of items available.

I like this Disney Store better than the one in West Edmonton Mall. It’s more open and I find easier to walk around and shop. I was looking around for gifts for little ones and I like the selection they have of clothes, toys, and plush animals, and lots of selection. In the sale section they had a cute Easter Minnie plush and lovely purple Frozen mugs both for $ 5.99. They also had tsum tsum mini plush in a variety of characters for half price. They also had Star Wars items which would be great for a fan. The staff are always friendly and willing to help if I need it. The check out was quick and efficient. Will be back next time I’m in Kingsway.

I had not been to Kingsway in ages(i’m talking pre renovations here) but having fond memories of Kingsway Disney store as well as wanting a bit of a change in my shopping patterns I hopped the bus and made my way down. I was sad to see they underwent similar renovations to the Disney store at West Ed. Do not get me wrong the store looks nice but the big pit of plush as well as the huge projection screen they used to have that played Disney clips are long gone. A big advantage these guys have over the store at WEM has to be the shelf layout is MUCH easier to navigate your way around versus the congestion over at the other location. You can still browse and take it all in without having to worry as much about running toddlers or mothers with tank sized strollers driving into you. Sales are pretty similar in both locations but the clearance section at Kingsway is larger and has things you would actually want to buy instead of left over merchandise from one of those rare Disney movies that doesn’t go over well at the box office.(Anybody remember Frankenweenie?) I have to say I really don’t like how much space is taken up with marvel merchandise as well as characters from Disney television. They have almost totally gotten out of the business of using classic characters like Mickey and Winnie the Pooh. This store is A-OK in my books and definitely still outperforms it’s other location but has lost the old school charm it used to have. If you have little ones with you however you will definitely put a smile on their face with a trip to the Disney Store.

If you hate Disney, you might have a heart of stone… you might want to get that looked at. I can’t help but have a huge grin on my face every time I walk into this store. My siblings and I have been Disney crazy since we were kids, and none of us have really grown out of it. I like this store simply because I can do most of my Christmas shopping in here alone. Seriously, I’ve done that at least twice; I get all my sisters something from here because I know they’ll like anything from here, then I go somewhere else to get my parents something. Christmas shopping done easily. It’s a great gift store for any family who was, or is, into Disney. Yeah, the new Disney stuff isn’t the best, but I’m still living in the past so that doesn’t phase me.

So this is what heaven looks like to a child. I would urge you not to take a child here. If you must go inside to buy something, I suggest tying up your child outside first. The place really does have everything Disney and is really neat to check out. It doesn’t feel like a regular toy store when you are inside. It’s a bit magical and a bit crazy. I have gone here to purchase gifts and I have seen children going absolutely bonkers. BONKERS. I feel for the parents that make the mistake of bringing them in. Kids screaming, left and right, clutching and grabbing the soft, stuffed disney characters. Sometimes I still hear the screams at night.

I love the Disney Store! It reminds me of my childhood days. They have a lot of classic toys and gifts(Mickey Mouse etc.) and newer stuff from recent movies and media(Wall E, Club Penguin etc.) I love the costumes, I always wonder if I could fit into the largest size. They seemed to have replaced the gigantic stuffed animal display with boxed plastc figurine sets. That is not something you want to run and jump into.

The truth is that I hate Disney. Okay, this is not the truth. I do like some Disney, or Pixar, films. Toy Story 1&2 were amazing, and Bambi was the first movie that I ever saw in a theatre, but I still am not big on Disney films. Therefore, I am not really a fan of The Disney Store. It’s very cute and girly, for the most part. My niece, however, loves Disney, and this had led to me having to watch Monsters Inc about 25 times. You don’t know what that does to a person. You start to analyze that film and nothing makes sense anymore! Anyways, my point is that I am often dragged into The Disney Store, when I go to the mall with my niece. Any kids that love Princess would love this store, because they have some very fancy dress-up costumes. They are really nice, but expensive too. Most things here are expensive, but some of the toys are reasonably priced. Recently, I saw a set of small Toy Story figurines. Something like this would look really cute set up on a shelf. Another really cool item here is the stuffed old-school black & white Mickey Mouse doll. I will probably be back to this store very soon, since Christmas is coming around. And if you’re having trouble finding a present for a little girl, The Disney Store is worth a try.

I know Disney has its weaknesses, but I can’t help but still love it. It always brings out the little girl in me who loved to play tea party with her dolls. Yeah, I know, I was a total victim of gender role stereotype! I usually stop by the Disney Store when I’m at Kingsway, because it’s the best location in my opinion. Even the one in Vancouver sucks compared to this one. No matter what is playing on their giant flat screen in the back, an old Mickey Mouse cartoon or Raven belting out a tune(hey, that rhymes), my attention is always captured and I will watch for a few minutes. They usually have cute costumes for the kids all year round, but of course, especially during Halloween. The costumes are typically gender stereotyped though, with all the girls’ stuff being all pink and poofy like a bunch of tutus, and cowboy and astronaut costumes for the boys. Still, if I were five again, I wouldn’t give a damn; I’d still want that pink princess tutu. My favorite part of the store though, is their vintage prints and snowglobe collections. They have framed prints of old and classic movies on one wall, with some original sketches available too(I’m sure these aren’t the original original ones, just copies of the real things; as if they’d sell you the real thing!). It reminds you of how Disney used to be like, before it went all computer-animated. Don’t get me wrong, I love the new Disney/Pixar films, but the animated classics had a certain quality to them that I’ll miss. The snowglobes are also really beautiful, ranging in various sizes from tiny to huge. I love them because they look so fairy-tale like, but they can be for kids or adults.

I’m not really into the new Disney stuff. Every now and then, I’ll go into the Disney store here in hopes of a little spark of the magic. I love the giant plush Eeyore. I just want to pick it up and give it a huge hug. I am very particular about my princesses so I wasn’t very happy when they decided to classify them all as one group. Cinderella is THE princess. Period. One thing I discovered when I went to Disney World is that if you have Disney Dollars left over from your trip, you can spend them at any Disney Store in North America. That didn’t make me bring any home, but it was good do know.
