We are Canada’s specialists for herbs and unique veggies, with more than 1000 varieties. We seeds, plants and more. We ship worldwide or you can visit our beautiful gift shop and greenhouses in Goodwood, just outside Toronto. We also offer free seminars on herbal and gardening topics.

Historique

Fondé en 1967.

The business started out as a general nursery and farm in Locust Hill, growing flower and vegetable plants in the greenhouses and fresh organic vegetables and herbs in the fields. The founders, Otto and Waltraut Richter, originally grew herbs for their personal use but customers took note of them and asked about them and started wanting to buy them. Soon newspaper articles appeared, including a full page article in the Toronto Star. An appearance by Waltraut Richter on CBC’s «Take Thirty» program with host Adrienne Clarkson (who later became Governor-​General) really convinced the Richters to specialize in herbs, as the program sparked an avalanche of letters requesting catalogues. The business moved to its present location in 1974 and continued to add many more varieties of herbs and also began developing some of its own new varieties such as ‘Orange Spice’ thyme and ‘Profusion’ chives. Conrad Richter, son of the founders, and his wife Aku run the business with a dedicated staff.

As a teenager Conrad helped research and produce the company’s first mailorder catalogue in 1970. He has worked on every catalogue since, and millions have been printed and mailed worldwide over the years. Conrad received a Masters in Botany at the University of Toronto and now credits his science training to helping him find new and exciting herbs and veggies.
