Bash Toulany’s Pizza Donairs & Subs

With Halifax being the home of the donair, it would be safe to say that Bash Toulany’s is the home of the best donair. Originally a corner store, Bash started making pizzas and donairs on the side in a small section of the store. Best meat, sauce and size bar none. Bash sold the business a few years ago but when I was there in April this year I would say that the taste remained but the size has reduced somewhat and the price increased. 4 stars due to the recent changes. 5 stars when Bash still owned it.

Years of being in the north end Bash’s kind of grew on you. The best thing about Bash’s is the actual Donairs meat which is made there. I remember going in and watching him making it in the back of the store and bagging it for sale the spice was amazing making it nice and hot. When I used to go to Vancouver my buddy always asked me to bring Bash’s and don’t forget the sauce.
Slices were available which were not too bad but I always went and had a donair. Medium donair with tomatoes and onions and not alot of sauce. A medium was like a large for most stores. Unwrapping that mammoth donair and smelling the meat was something that I did quiet often on the weekend.
Bash is still around but I hear that it now has a new owner.

When it’s often claim that Bash’s donairs are the best in the city, it’s something that’s got to be checked out. So today, a friend and I ventured over for lunch. We settled on Special #6 — two medium donairs.
For mediums, I shudder to think what the large and extra large would look like. In fact, it’s a little scary to even consider.
In any case, the medium a good meal — almost too much — complete with red onions, tomatoes, and a huge amount of a pretty good sauce, I was more than sated, in fact I could barely finish it.
For obvious reasons we didn’t try the pizza, but it certainly looked good — and the quality of the ingredients was suggested by the fact that the whole time we were there, a guy was sitting in the back gingerly chopping some very good looking green peppers bound for this evening’s pizzas.

I Love Bash’s Donairs. Have been a fan for many years. It has good pizza, but the donairs are the best. You can even buy the meat directly if you like to make your own donairs at home. They have it displayed in back, you will see their donairs in some grocery stores as well.
Good size portions, the large is just plain HUGE, you have to be hungry for two people to eat that. However I am sure after a night out, this will hit the spot. I must warn you, some people find the meat spicy. I like it.
