Dalplex is Halifax’s largest fitness and recreation facility. We offer individual, family and seniors’ membership options, recreation programs for children and adults, swim lessons and so much more.
short and sweet an awesome place to come and get a good swim in, a really long Olympic sized pool to get some laps in, which is really nice cause you can get into a good rhythm without much down time for turning around. the facilities are really clean, the staff is really great, and the pool is not overly crowded. one of the better pools I’ve been to in my life. I wish I could have dived here when I had the opportunity

Nice place when your a child and good for exercise but either way there’s not much else to say it’s just a blah playground is only 5 to 12 and parents can’t go up there to help there children but the pools okay haven’t been there in 2 years so I’m hoping it changed but for now 2 stars

Not particularly nice, but it’s functional. The school fees don’t get you access to cardio though — that’s extra, which sucks.

I agree with Lacey — Dalplex could be so much better than it is. It’s a massive facility and has lots of variety; however, you can’t help but feel that the whole place needs a facelift. Cardio — not much here unless you’re willing to set foot in the grimy fieldhouse or pay extra for the exclusive room. Weights — both cramped and spread out, depending on where you’re at. The little weight room is far too congested for those of us preferring room to exercise and some semblance of peace and quiet. Both areas are poorly supervised; I have seen many people wearing inappropriate clothing(i.e. business suits) and footwear(flip-flops, cowboy boots, etc.), and using equipment incorrectly. Classes — no privacy whatsoever, given that they are held in the same gym that allows soccer/basketball/rock climbing sessions. Pool — dirty, dirty, dirty. Constantly full of people. Avoid. Locker rooms — large yet cramped. Not properly maintained. It’s bad enough that students are forced to pay for these sub-par facilities(which never seem to improve), but why any member of the community would choose to purchase a membership here is beyond my comprehension. SMU’s gym is far nicer, and also a far better deal.

For«force» charging students as part of their fees every semester, Dalplex could do better. Just compare it with SMU’s gym and you’ll know what I mean.

This gym is kind of the big blah. It meets the gym requirements: cardio machines, free weights, the constant smell of sweat, but it’s kind of grimy, especially the field house, oh and the locker rooms, oh and the tiny stink room for people who don’t want to pay extra for the fancier cardio room… I used to play squash here quite a bit during my undergrad. Descending into the bowels of this building isn’t the most comfortable of feelings. Perhaps I’m a little on the wienery side, but I like windows and some natural light. This basement space is dank and unappealing, and not the most inspiring environment to rock out a serious game of squash. Nevertheless, it ain’t so bad… or is it? Pools often ick me out and this once isn’t an exception. Maybe it’s because everything is so darn utilitarian with no design flare. I mean, students pay so much money for their education, including building fees, why not make the Dalplex a little more swanky? I know, everything is expensive and Dal is always looking for dough(they called me the other day to see if I wanted to make a $ 20 donation. I’m still paying for the education I received there, so I declined). Anyway, the Dalplex is fine. It’s not great, and I would not pay to have a membership here if I wasn’t a student. There are better gyms in this city than the Dalplex(I hope).

Dalplex is the Dalhousie gym that is(more or less) free to students enrolled at the university. I say more or less because when I attended Dal, you had to pay an extra fee in order to enter the cardio area, which was the only spot with eliptical and tread mills. Annoying to say the least. Dalplex does have a swimming pool as well as squash courts though so that redeemed them at least in my eyes. Exercise classes are also offered here although they take place in the main gym atrium area often with basketball practices occurring on the same courts. Not exactly a conducive yoga environment. Overall, I think that there is more than Dalplex could do to better their facilities. Check out the website for intramural info and the kids fun zone!
