I used to be an avid gym exerciser and only knew of the goodlife/nubodys chain of gyms across Canada. When I moved from TO, a friend of mine introduced me to the YMCA in Dartmouth — and I haven’t stepped foot in a Nubodys/Goodlife since. At $ 45 a month, the Dartmouth YMCA offers free parking, a full fitness center(with upgraded equipment such as tv’s, ipod connectors and the like), helpful volunteers/trainers who dont mind guiding you through the complex, answering your questions about nutrition, or even a few key exercises — and they also have a swimming pool and fitness classes! I am an early riser and usually head down to the Y at 6am, three times a week. The staff are very friendly at all times, which truly adds to the experience. On several occassions I had forgotten my membership card and they were willing to help me out. What I truly admire is how the Y is run: the managerial staff is so helpful and understanding they truly feel like family. For instance, two years ago I let 3 full paying months pass without making it to the gym once(due to the change in my work schedule shifts). I spoke with the manager, he looked through my file and simply gave me three months at no cost! Another reason why the Y is so amazing: they truly care about their clients and are not money grubbers. Highly recommended if you are looking for a friendly fitness fascility!
