Last week I had a hankering for roti, but I don’t know of any good roti joints in Hamilton. I’d driven past Granny’s place in the past, so decided to give it a whirl. First impressions? The fellow in the back cutting goat on the band saw gave this place an authentic feel. The grocery store sells Caribbean spices/fruits at really great prices, and the restaurant menu selections were good. But I was here for the roti. Granny makes the roti order by order, so I had to wait 10 or 15 minutes. Not a big deal — there was a terrible B movie blaring on the TV, so I watched that for a while. Finally the roti came, and it was beautiful… and huge. The shell was light and flakey, and the chicken and potato filling was perfect. The accompanying hot sauce made me sweat nicely. I’ll definitely be going back!
