Ooh KABSA Restaurant

I Love Persian food! I’ve tried Persian food from Washington, D. C all the way to Vancouver. For some reason I did not like the food @ Ooh Kabsa. First, the Shawarma chicken was a tad thick and the seasoning was quite off from other shawarma I have tried. Secondly, I could not stomach the taste of the falafels and the lamb kebab was very thin and dry. The service, décor and coffee was good, but I will not be going back.

The hubs and I debated between Lemongrass or this place for a Saturday lunch. And this place won. We drove in and thought the place was closed since the open sign was not on. But as we drove out, the sign was lit… what?!
So we parked and walked in at 12:45pm. I guess the sign was just turned on because it was just opened at 12:30pm. We were the only table the whole time we were there.
Atmosphere: simple, but nice Arabic atmosphere. Soft Arabic music and TV shows are played in the back ground. There are three TVs in the restaurant. Pretty large dining area.
Kitchen service: we weren’t too hungry so we ordered the mix BBQ plate to share. The hubs ordered the Arabic coffee ($ 2 — refillable). We placed order at 12:50pm. Food arrived at 1:08pm.
Customer service: very nice gentlemen served us. He was patient and cheerful.
Taste: the lamb was a bit overcooked. The meat are all seasoned nicely. Kasba rice was good with the tomato taste.
Portion: we were joking while we were eating how the plate has 300g of protein with 900g of rice. There was a lot of rice. One can easily go into a rice coma with this dish.
Overall: we like the place, but 1 star deducted for chewy lamb and another star deducted for lack of protein for a dish that we paid $ 24 for. We felt that we didn’t get our value for the price paid.

I’ve only been here once but I definitely plan on returning. Ooh KABSA is a gem in Kamloops that we are lucky to have.
From Monday to Friday, Ooh KABSA offers a lunchtime buffet. I always like to check out the buffet the first time I visit a new restaurant to get a feel for the variety they offer. Our server was quick to assure me that as I vegetarian, I would still have plenty to choose from. He wasn’t kidding! I filled up on falafel, lemony french-​fries, middle-​eastern rice, lentil soup, salads, and more. Everything was amazing. I definitely went back for seconds of the soup and falafel.
As for service? Outstanding. Our server was cracking jokes and making friendly conversation the whole time we were there. This restaurant is very welcoming.

Amazing food and great, friendly staff! I tried the mafroom wrap, and my wife had the falafel wrap — both were soooo flavourful. The lentil soup was perfect for a cool spring day. Will definitely be coming back!

Smiling helpful staff, refreshingly unique mint tea and the best falafel and hummus I have ever eaten. Definitely recommend giving it a try.

When the server took our orders, before asking what we wanted said, «No burgers.» He refused to serve us burgers and insisted that we try something different. So I said sure, surprise me with something. Less then 5 five minutes later he brought back a bbq wrap cut in half for my friend and I for us just to try. He then came back again with some amazingly seasoned rice so we could try that, too. Then our actual meal came (I ended up getting a chicken shawarma wrap). It was great! There were a few more standout things the owner did as well, but you get the idea. My friend tipped $ 5 and he refused to take it. Probably the best service I’ve ever gotten at any restaurant paired with great food. I highly recommend.
