I stood there LOOKING up at the banner saying«The Hot Duck», a tiny take-out shop in the inside of the plaza right across from the grocery store. The attendant spoke to me, «What would it be, HANDSOME?» Of course that is a normal greeting in Hong Kong culture OR that she didn’t have too many men visit her shop or the quality of men was subpar?!? The direct translation from the Chinese name of the shop is «Duck Neck King» but the other patron in front of me saw the Salt Baked Chicken promotion and got that instead. Yup, I got the Duck Neck($ 2.99/Neck) which was sitting in the fridge and she asked why I only wanted one and I told her I just want to try it but what I’m after is the Duck TONGUE($ 4.99/approx. 10) that was in a take-out box above the necks. She took the Neck tray out and chopped my NECK into pieces and put it in a plastic bag. She asked if I want extra spicy and I said no thanks, let me try it first. The Neck was okay and wasn’t as spicy as I thought it would be, so I thought maybe I should have had it MORE spicy but then I had the Tongue and it was GOOD and the more I had, the more I felt the spice. It’s one of those delicacies that gets ADDICTIVE! It brings me back to my memories of TAIWAN where I had the most amazing Duck Tongue ever and if I compare that experience to this, it wouldn’t even stand a chance but unfortunately at this moment a place like this is still a rarity in GTA. Chris Cosentino would be proud that NOTHING goes to waste as his theory behind that all the parts should be used since a life of an Animal was taken.
