When I moved into Mission In the late 90’s Hana sushi was very good. A few years later I talked to the owner and he told me he was moving to look after his other restaurants and was selling the location in Mission. When the new owners took over the quality went way down. I went time after time and kept giving them chances but enough is enough. I won’t go back. The sushi rolls fall apart and the there are better places to go in Mission, Abbotsford and Maple Ridge.

When we arrived at Hana Sushi, the outside of the restaurant looked really old, tiny and battered. However, when we walked inside, the restaurant was cozy and much bigger than it seemed. You can tell this place is family-run. There was only one person on the floor. He was the sushi chef and the waiter/hostess. The other person was in charge of the kitchen and she only appeared when she helped with serving some of the dishes. Service was good. Parking was easy. We ordered: — Green salad: decent, and nothing fancy. I liked the sauce though! — Prawn tempura: this was good as it came fresh and steaming hot. The batter was crunchy and just right. — Dynamite roll: good, but I felt like it was cut up too thinly. — various nigiri(see picture): was okay. They weren’t the freshest. — Gyoza: not bad. — Nabeyaki udon: Pretty good. The broth was nice, but the noodles were a little too soft.

This tiny family-run place makes yummy sushi and they are very friendly. I haven’t been there for a while but the owner would always bring my daughter a small treat when she was little. Great place for lunch or dinner.
