While stuck at the airport earlier this week, I was desperate for something that wasn’t the typical fast food or Tim Hortens. Seeing how there was no Second Cup or Starbucks around, I was hoping for any café that didn’t served watered down brown sewer water(aka. bad coffee). I saw this little café before security and figured I could try it out. The ‘barista’ seem really confused with my order(12 oz latte extra hot with soy) as he had to ask 3 times if I wanted skim milk or whole. After telling him that I didn’t want either one but the soy alternative. He came back to me to say that he had neither soy or whole milk available. So I got the skim latte. The coffee was mediocre at best. Though it wasn’t bitter or highly acidic(hate that), it wasn’t flavourful and I think he added too much milk so it was more like coffee flavoured milk steamer. The price is the usual ‘gouge in me the eye’ airport prices. The food here looked dismal and I ended up passing on the large packaged cookies and dry looking muffins. Overall, don’t bother and head over to Tim Hortens just down the hallway. At least the prices are more reasonable and you get the same quality.

While this is not my first choice for an airport meal, it is definitely my first choice for a latte. Rivalling my Ethiopian washed bean latte from Mercury Espresso, I fell head over foam into this fat free wonder. For me what constitutes a great latte is the smooth texture, combined with a perfect amount of foam and an easy bitter-free flavor. I like it even more when I don’t need to add any sugar. While I am recommending this coffee spot for espressos and lattes, the food and other miscellaneous drinks are truly over priced, thus the drop in star power. While they are a pretty penny; at $ 2.20 a each; the banana walnut muffin is really quite delicious. Bottom line… the airport is an expensive place to eat and drink but this scrumptious eatery is an alright spot.
