Culiniste

My partner and I were spending $ 100 – 200 per week on groceries, and eating the same rotation of boring, college-​student-​level dishes (chicken and rice, pasta with canned sauce, salmon when it was on sale, frozen pizzas).
Now, we’re learning how to cook and try new ingredients without having to worry about going to specialized food stores, finding fresh produce and meat, or figuring out what to do with the ingredients left over from a new recipe. Every Culiniste meal comes with just the right amount of food (no more waste!) and exposes us to ingredients we couldn’t find at the supermarket.
I no longer have to scrounge for recipes that I *think* I can make, forage for the lengthy list of ingredients, and spend an unknown amount of time in the kitchen. New seasonal flavours and easy-​to-​follow recipes show up, and dinner is on the table in 30 minutes. It’s cheaper too — we go to the store half as often to get essentials (bread, milk, snacks).

I got a week’s worth of deliveries that came with 3 meals.
The food was packaged in a cardboard box with thermal insulation. The three recipes that I had were: salmon + mashed potatoes, vegetarian couscous, and chicken pesto pasta
Every meal was packaged in recyclable bags. The portion size were substantial, each meal comprised of a good proportion of protein, carbs, and fat. What I liked about it was that it was convenient, the cooking instructions were easy to follow, and there were no leftovers of uncooked foods.
Some things I thought that lacked a little bit was the flavors. Although I could tell the ingredients were very fresh and really didn’t need much flavoring. But the flavoring could be a little more interesting than just salt and pepper. For example, I was told to add just salt and pepper to my salmon, and the recipe didn’t even come with a lemon — which is a pretty common thing to have with salmon.
Overall, it was a really good experience. It also saved me a lot of time in terms of grocery shopping. No hassle in brainstorming what to cook.
For those who wants to change up your usual cooking routine or just spend a fun night in the kitchen with your kids, I highly recommend trying out the Culiniste.

Absolutely awesome!
They deliver the freshest ingredients, and this is what I love most. Not only do they change the menu every week, but it’s always really cool recipes with cool new ingredients that I’ve never heard of before, or a new spice. I really enjoy cooking, but I don’t always have the time to read cookbooks for inspiration, so this is perfect!
I strongly recommend it, for the time you save, the freshness of the stuff they give, the ideas, the price, the whole concept! :))

Just prepared another fantastic meal with ingredients and step-​by-​step recipe delivered to my door by Culiniste. The ingredients are very fresh and arrived in just the right quantity. Tonight we had the Piri-​Piri chicken with sweet mash and plantain. The recipe was easy to follow (I had never previously eaten Piri-​Piri or plantain!) and the meal was delicious with balanced flavours coming from the ginger, garlic and Piri-​Piri spice. We spiced it medium hot. Tomorrow we will be having the Lebanese style beef shawarma with fattoush salad. Can’t wait.

Very interesting idea! Culiniste is a great way for amateur chefs to explore new culinary adventures. One week, you get to taste ramen from Japan and next week, you are into Moroccan lamb shank.
The recipes are easy to follow and nutritional, perfect for someone who wants to start cooking healthy meals. It allowed me to play with new ingredients that I will never think of trying.
The boxes are a bit pricier: it comes up to almost 10 $ per meal. Be prepared to pay a premium for fresh/​seasonal ingredients coming straight from a local farm. I personally still think it’s much better than me picking the same old items at the grocery stores week after week.
Another tip: don’t put the seasoning all at once. It’s better to taste it first. I learned the hard way, :p.
