Suite 88 Chocolatier

While pricey, this place is definitely a chocolatier. It is heads and shoulders above any of the chain chocolate stores like Purdy’s.
The store/​café is so nice and almost looks like a brand new showroom for cars that you’re afraid to eat there. My DC was almost afraid to enter because it looked too high class. We still entered and the girls at the counter were super friendly. We bought a chai tea latte, a gelato with two flavours (mint and dark chocolate) that came with chocolate chips and a vegan chocolate bars. This place has everything. Even chocolate cars! Btw, I don’t even like chocolate!
I bought a small chai tea latte and when I asked for a small cup, the server split it into two small cups for us. It was exceptional service.
Lovely little place. Will visit again.

There are a few places in downtown Montréal where you can get some sweet sweet sweet brunch (if you’re craving chocolate!). Suite 88 is one of them! Now I must say, it is insanely good. Their hot chocolate is near perfection, very rich in flavour, smooth and just right. Waffle? Small portion, but hey, it came with 2 scoops of gelato. So it’s pretty decent for the price. Now, compared to the other chocolate places it is a bit over their prices, which is not that cheap! It’s a cozy little place to chat, work or just relax. So everything almost perfect but the priiiiiice. The price. Yep.

The selection is quite limited and you can’t create your own assortment box of chocolates. Too pricey for what it was.

Juste trop bon. Chocolat maison, gouffre maison, brownies maison, crème glacée maison, bref tout est maison et extrêmement bon. Le super sundae, que j’ai oublié le nom, est assez pour faire un dessert et un repas en même temps. Excellent pour partager. En plus, vous avez le choix de trois crème glacée dedans, avec un brownies ou biscuit et plusieurs sorte de coulis de chocolat. Un délice.
Juliette et chocolat peut aller se rhabiller, cette endroit donne des portions beaucoup plus grosse, Ça goûte beaucoup plus et ça coûte un peu moins cher. En plus, Il n’y à pas de fils d’attente de 3 heures, le service est ultra rapide et efficace.
Il y à même un petit loundge.

This is a nice place for a date! They have so many dessert cakes, chocolate and gelato. They also make fancy drinks.
I enjoy the ambience of this location. It is usually quiet and it feels an European boutique when you walk in.
All the small gift sets that they offer make great gifts and they have so many different types and choices of chocolate.
The price is a bit on the high side but the high quality is what you pay for! Even going for a coffee is worth the experience (of course, they offer a nice selection of hot drinks!)

I am not a huge fan of chocolate, no; However, from what I’ve eaten their chocolate was quite edible, fresh and rich by most standards. Instead, I’ve come to review one specific quality of this establishment:
Unexpectedly, as if they were a third-​wave coffee shop, they have some of the best espresso in the city. If I lived near here, I would be tempted to drink espresso here everyday.
Even if you’re not a chocolate fan, stop in for one of their espresso drinks!

Suite 88 has always had a special place in my heart. You see, before I moved to Montréal over ten years ago, my boyfriend at the time brought me to that place and I left with a little bag filled with their delicious chocolate. I still carry the memory with me and each time I come back, I find myself delighted in their chocolates and drinks, as it it was the first time all over again! *cue Madonna’s Like a Virgin song*
I adore chocolate. If I could have a three-​way marriage, it would be my husband, me, and chocolate. It would be messy but fulfilling.
Suite 88 never fails to deliver excellent, rich and tasty chocolate, as well as an exceptionally good service. Once, a few minutes before their closing time, my husband and I were looking for a coffee shop downtown. Whereas most other places would either have turned us down or considered us annoying, the barrista was extremely polite and kind, treating us with respect and care. Even if I apologized and assured him we would be gone as soon as we had our mochaccino to-​go, he told us it was no problem at all and that he was happy to help us. Now THAT is golden customer service!
I highly recommend their chocolate coffee, espresso, hot chocolate and chocolate products. Actually, I recommend everything. I’m serious; I’ve never been disappointed by their products, except that one time when I couldn’t finish their cold chocolate drink because it was too rich and sweet. In any case, I consider this to be my fault, as it as delicious. I just wasn’t strong enough to handle it! Perhaps I should return more often and train my choco-​muscle!
Finally, their prices are a bit on the expensive side, so prepare your wallets. It’s the main reason I don’t go too often. That and the fact I don’t want to inflate like a balloon and die of diabetes by age 40. I’d die happy though, no doubt!

Food was good, but bad customer service.
We ordered waffle with two scoops of gelato.
The waitress behind the counter had a really angry face, what for?! Got even more pissed after we didn’t want to add chocolate for $ 2.75 more.
They only got a very limited choices of gelato, no mango or chocolate flavours.
But their waffle was warm and was a great contrast to the sea salt and banana gelato we got. However, both flavours were kind of funny.

Happy to stumble upon this place in Montréal. It is a nice alternative to the other busy chocolate cafes. We ordered a dark and milk hot chocolate and a brownie. Both were AMAZING. They have a cute little lounge area by the fireplace where they’ll bring your food out to you. Highly recommend stopping by for a quick treat.

All their chocolate selection is delish, hot chocolates are perfectly delicious and not overly too sweet.
Their tablet bars make great additions to top bday cards. Service was very friendly. Really liked this place :)

Waffle with 3 different chocolate and hot white chocolate are my fave! Haven’t try their brownies. Don’t worry I’ll be back ;)

The best way to describe this place is the chocolate equivalent of Tiffany and Co. The chocolates are works of art behind glass cases to be admired but not touched. They are beautiful, decadent, and unique.
We stopped in for dessert as if we hadn’t inhaled enough calories for the day and exercised a pitiful amount of self-​control and kept our order limited to a brownie-​gelato sundae and a biscuit.
We selected the Nutella brownie with a scoop of ginger gelato and chocolate banana gelato. The chocolatier himself offered to warm our dishes up. With every bite of the brownie, warm Nutella oozes out. The warmth of the brownie was balanced with the cold gelato. The chocolate banana gelato was phenomenal but not to be dwarfed by the finer gelato which really cleansed the palate in between bites of chocolate goodness.
The «biscuit» we selected was an oatmeal cookie with raisins and chocolate drizzled over top. So amazingly soft especially since it was warmed up.
A word about the service. We showed up with a wave of chocolate loving patrons but the line moved fast. There was a sense of pride with each plate they prepared and they truly seemed happy to please everyone who came through, that’s a step above and beyond good service.
There is indoor and outdoor seating too so you can enjoy your treats at your leisure.

Finest chocolatier in Montréal hands down. Out of this world truly authentic Belgium waffles as well as homemade gelato and brownies. I have used their chocolate truffles and shooters several times as gifts and received impressive feedback

There are some places you visit and think back on fondly, never quite believing whether the food or drink really was as good as you remembered. Luckily for me I got to revisit this place and try their hot chocolate and relive the deliciousness. It was truly amazing! Thick, milky, creamy, chocolatey, with a shot of flavor if you desire. It could be considered a little excessive at nearly $ 6 a mug but once you’ve tasted it you won’t be disappointed.
Enticing as the rest of the menu appears, iv never gotten round to trying anything else. Perhaps next time!

The hot chocolate here is amazing and super rich — perfect comfort food on a cold day.
I’ve also tried the waffle with dark chocolate sauce, which was decent — better than average, but no «wow!» The waffle came in a prepackaged bag, so I think they only heated it up and drizzled chocolate on top. That being said, it is quite pricey — I think the waffle with the chocolate sauce came out to be around $ 9.
The staff is super friendly though, and there is an option of either indoor or outdoor seating.

Lately, we just discovered their unique sorbet flavour called «cinq épices» (or «five spices» for my English readers). Based on an original Italian recipe, their sorbets come in more than 25 different flavours. «Cinq épices» caught our attention just by its name.
Usually, when you think of five spices, you think of a tea or hot beverage. In this case, it was transformed into a cold pleasant dessert, not too sweet and perfectly spiced up with the intensity of the chosen ingredients. The light texture makes you forget you’re guiltily eating a «dessert».

This would’ve been 4 stars if it ain’t for the waffle. My banana flavored hot chocolate with milk and whip cream was pretty delicious. I don’t normally get hot chocolate because I’m afraid that it is to sweet. This cup of hot chocolate was very surprising and very good.
I can’t say the same for the waffle. Had a bad feeling when i saw the waffle coming out of a prepackaged wrapper. It tasted like it was sitting there for weeks.
I shouldn’t let this effect the rating but it just ruined the whole experience. I was pretty happy with the drink and to have tasted the waffle just killed the experience. They should move to making fresh waffle in house. This will ensure the quality of the waffle is up to standard with the chocolates they serve here.
Price wise, like any speciality store it is more expensive here. A cup of hot chocolate will run you $ 5.95-$ 6.95. A bit pricey.
Will i come back… only for their hot chocolate.

A chocolate lounge and chocolatier, Suite 88 offers luxurious desserts in a contemporary, albeit weirdly narrow, setting. Chocolate-​based desserts (pastries, gelato, brownies), chocolate bars, truffles, and other chocolate pieces are shown to great advantage against the stark, minimalist white interior and glass displays. We were on our way to another dessert place and only stopped by to stock up on their single-​origin, as well as, flavored chocolate bars: fleur de sel, praline, maple sugar, milk, caramel, and gianduja, just to name a few. While the chocolate continues to be rich, creamy, and flavorful, I was disappointed by the disorganized and unfriendly service.

Amazing spot for a hot chocolate! They have so many variations such as cinnamon, orange, cardamom, vanilla etc… You could also chose whether you want milk, white or dark chocolate. They’re all very rich and decadent, sometimes hard to finish the whole glass, but it is very delicious. They also have sweet treats such as waffles, truffles and CHOCOLATE SHOTS, to name a few. It’s a great spot for a first date (this is where I came with my boyfriend of 3 years). It’s a little small so I wouldn’t suggest going with a big group of friends.

They do have good quality chocolate, and yes they are expensive!
We bought truffles @ CAD$ 9.90÷100 gram (The translation to the non-​metric: .22 lbs, almost ¼ lbs for CAD$ 9.90)
It was good, it was worth it and man it was painful to find out that I just spend almost CAD$ 60 for chocolate.
I highly recommend this chocolatier and try to visit on fri, sat and sun. they have a chocolatier that makes specials for sample. When we were there, they made pistachio, cashew and walnut covered w/​dark chocolate, I believe it was 70% dark… It was super delicious.
The downside, just be ready to drop some money if you love chocolate!

Alors d’abord merci à Katherine (la boss !) pour l’adresse, je risqué de retourner dans ce petit bar à chocolat bien trop souvent.
Pour ma première visite je me suis laissé tenté par le chocolat chaud à l’érable (pas très original, cliché du touriste, mais j’assume totalement) sans essayer de gâteau ou pâtisserie (je venais de me faire une poutine, vous comprenez)
Et donc je reprends: WOW
Chocolat onctueux, épais mais pas trop bourratif, et un goût d’érable vraiment prononcé ! Je m’attendais pas à ce que ça sente autant le sirop d’érable, magnifique surprise, mes papilles en salive encore.
Accueil sympa, plusieurs tables pour se poser et discuter.
Montréal, I love you !

Jeudi 24 janvier 2013… –22c à Montréal. Le boulevard de Maisonneuve agit comme un canyon urbain et accélère les vents déjà importants, ce qui nous donne un indice de refroidissement éolien entre –32c et –40c.
Que faire? La vitrine de «Suite 88 Chocolatier» croise ma vue et soudainement, moi qui né bois presque jamais de chocolat chaud, j’ai une envie soudaine et irrésistible d’entrer dans le commerce et de siroter cet élixir.
J’ai été particulièrement heureux de voir que je pouvais avoir un chocolat chaud au chocolat noir avec piment et poivre de Cayenne. Petite gourmandise, un peu de crème fouettée. C’était presque parfait (les portions sont un peu trop généreuses).
Je repasserais pour essayer autre chose et me faire une opinion plus complète.

Une belle boutique-​café-​lounge qui fait une place de roi au chocolat.
Il y en a pour tous les goûts: chocolats noirs, au lait, aromatisés, en tablettes, en truffes, en fondue, etc.
Moi, je l’ai dégusté en chocolat chaud à la cardamome. C’était très gourmand; chocolat noir fondu avec un goût très prononcé de cardamome, le tout garni de crème fouettée… hum, hum. Très réconfortant après une marche dans le centre-​ville au grand froid!
La décoration est très moderne, la musique est bonne, pas trop forte. On peut se reposer et parler. Une bonne adresse à retenir!

After reading such rave reviews about this place we felt like we had to go check it out for ourselves! It was some of the best dessert we have ever had, we each decided to get gelato and a brownie, the small size allows you to get two flavours my friend opted to get the green tea and raspberry gelato’s and she said «this might be the best thing she’s ever eaten» she enjoyed it so much! her accompanying brownie was chocolate with raspberry cheesecake, also very good.
I choose to have the praline and chocolate gelato, I am a huge chocolate LOVER! and to my shock I actually enjoyed the praline more, it had more depth of flavour it was very good. My brownie of choice was a chocolate with salted Carmel centre brownie, I took the advice of the sales associate to heat up the brownie to melt the Carmel and Oh my goodness it was incredible!!! One of the best brownies I have ever tasted.
This was such a satisfy dessert, I can’t even describe it, if you have a sweet tooth you need to go! the price is not outrageous and so incredibly worth it!
