The service here was great — our server was friendly and very attentive. Other than that, there was nothing special about our experience here. You can get pretty basic — and overpriced — breakfast food here or go for something not so basic.
I had the cheese bene and my fiancé had the breakfast platter with turkey bacon, eggs, hash browns, toast and fruit. The portion sizes were fair and the food was fine, but nothing extraordinary.

This location used to be amazing under old ownership. Now it is terrible. Food was burned and disgusting. Considering how it is pricy, now it is not worth it. My husband and I always went to De Dutch in Victoria and when we moved to Vancouver, it became «our» breakfast place. We have been to Richmond and Hasting locations before and they are always high standard. We moved in New West near this location, and were so excited how good it was. Now, what a disappointment. The new owner changed seating and now it is overcrowded. She needs to treat her staff better, learn restaurant management and bring food quality back to where it was. Will not be back until things change!

We usually go to Denny’s, so it was our first and last time here… Coffee is really test like nothing here. Prices are %20 more then usual and portions are not big at all.
Disappointed

I went on a busy sunday, wasn’t a long wait for a table and the service was always fast. The portions were large and everything was tasty. It’s a fun experience, and better than IHop.

Strange to read reviews that trash this place as My wife and I love it and have never had an issue here. My preference is your standard western type breakfast and although a bit pricey De Dutch delivers a fantastic meal whereas my wife prefers the pannekoek and again it is wonderful. Never had a problem with service so all in all, check it out, you don’t have to come back if you don’t like it but you just may find a hidden treasure.

A good place to go for breakfast or lunch in New West. The food is always good and we’ve always had really good service. In fact, when we went there for my son’s birthday, they took the time create a funny face on his pancake using fruit (at no extra charge). The portions are large and there is a wide selection of savoury and sweet.
A few minor quibbles make this a four star review instead of five. On the weekends, the place is always packed and there’s a wait to get seated. And they chronically seem understaffed — our server always seems to be constantly rushing around. Also, the «selection of fresh fruit» is always about 80% cantaloup/​honeydew, which I hate.

Came here with a meet-​up group after the original restaurant was closed due to no power. I was hesitant to go because it looks too much like your average coffee shop. But, it wasn’t all about the food, company with these ladies were important too. So, I went in. I’m not a fan for pancakes, waffles or anything that has to do with syrup or whip cream. I was planning on a vegetarian eggs Benedict at the original place so I looked for something similar but they didn’t have anything of sort. Instead I opted for the «souper deal» of ½ soup and ½ salad. The soup was watery and the salad was ok. Will I be back? Probably not. A couple of the ladies had pannekoeks and they all enjoyed it. So if you like thing like that, you’d probably like this place. We did wait and the place was full. They don’t take reservations.

Came here for breakfast twice on Sundays and this place was busy both times. I got the fully loaded Farmer’s breakfast and it was a lot of food. Service is always friendly and efficient.

Came here with 2 of my frds for breakfast. The male server is very rude and not friendly at all! When he came to pick up one of my frds plate he ”ordered” my frd to put her cutlery on the plate. He said put ur cutlery on the plate. while her plate was quite full as she was requesting to pack it up. So there werent really room to fit the fork and knife so eventually it was laid awkwardly right on top of her food. If it was asked with a better tone and language maybe we wouldnt hav the same unpleasant experience. Anyways I wouldnt want to come back. Since the food was average but over priced and poor service.

bad service. server was so rude with that ignorant look. took us long time to get our order and our bill when the restaurant wasnt even too busy. Ah not to forget, when i asked hows the size of the meal like? is it good for two? her reply was «decent». what do you mean by that? Such a vague reply. I wish you could actually explain how much we would be getting. That would really be nice for the DECENT tip we were going to give.

HORRIBLE service every time we have been. The food is okay. Nothing special and never hot, more like luke warm. And $ 5 for an orange juice that’s the equivalent of 4 ounces (wtf? Another $ 2 you could get a glass of wine)

WIth Amelia’s and Sixth Street Grill in the neighbourhood this overpriced breakfast spot is incredibly underwhelming. Not sure why it’s so busy. Service was okay.

Yet another restaurant that has made my life so much better since my move from Alberta is De Dutch. Only available in British Columbia, this European inspired breakfast nook is exactly that, a strictly breakfast styled restaurant.
While they have multiple locations around the lower mainland and across the province, my favorite is the one at Columbia Square in New Westminster. Mere blocks from the skytrain and with an open concept design, this location is beautifully laid out and an ideal breakfast stop. Of all the De Dutch’s I have visited, this location has never failed to offer incredible service and top notch food. They are fast, friendly, and above all FRESH!
Now some of you had the pleasure of growing up with De Dutch in your life, I alas did not. So while this post might seem like I am fascinated with something quite normal and trivial, humor me please, I thought this concept was really cool and unique.
My partner in crime advised that the best option for me was the Pannekoek, their signature dish. Which unfortunately for me, comes in about a million different options. More like 50 different varieties but you get my point. The Pannekoek tasted very similar to the North American pancake and is slightly thicker than a crêpe. With a diameter of 12 inches, it can seem a little intimidating when it first arrives. Your toppings of choice are laid on the top usually in a ramekin or glass bowl. Then begins the traditional assembly of your De Dutch breakfast.
Step 1 — Pour out the toppings of your Pannekoek onto the surface. Line them up in the center in a line.
Step 2 — Tuck the one side of your Pannekoek under your toppings nice and snug.
Step 3 — Roll then devour!
My personal choice has become the Hash Pannekoek. A delicious combination of hash browns, mushroom, green pepper, and cheddar sauteed with your choice of ham, DeBakon (Canadian Bacon fried crispy), sausage, turkey bacon or vegetarian. All smothered in hollandaise sauce, truly the low fat option on the menu. My cohort is addicted to the Rio Grande, with onion and green pepper cooked inside and topped with cheddar cheese, salsa and sour cream.
My most recent addiction there is the Peach Melba. Quite simply a Pannekoek topped with peaches, raspberries and whipped cream. The wise breakfast nosher will choose a half size of both to enjoy the best of both worlds.
All of this food is accompanied by bold coffee and fresh juices. Everything you could ask of a great breakfast nook. While I usually avoid chains for my reviews, this location stands out to me. They take the time to make themselves a unique dining experience and provide service commonly found only in a mom and pop café.
They’re worth the trip to New West.

New ‘n shinny with happy cheery serves to match!
A new De Dutch franchise has recently opened in New West in Columbia Square. According to local newspaper, it’s run by the Jang’s family. I saw the lady owner there once. She seems very friendly and approachable.
The recently renovated restaurant is bright and shinny. I particularly like the booths under sky light/​green house area. All female servers are cheerful and helpful. The breakfast is reasonably priced and the portion is generous.
I was there with my parents on a Sat morning, and that place was packed! It’s nice to see many young families with toddlers going there to have brunch. Don’t think because it’s New West it must be populated with grannies (not that there’s anything wrong with that!)
