Family Eye Care Centre has been helping the people of New Westminster for over 50 years. We are committed to providing quality eye care services for adults and children.
All our doctors do two eye exams on every patient — one to check vision, and the other to evaluate eye health inside and out, including tests for glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration. We measure colour vision, muscle balance and all adult eye exams include peripheral vision screening and retinal photographs using the latest ‘Optomap’ technology.
We also offer consultations for laser refractive surgery; as well as treatment services that include fashion forward eye glasses, state-of-the-art contact lenses, and vision therapy. And of course, we treat eye infections, injuries and allergies.

Dr. Brenda Horner was born and raised in Abbotsford, BC, attended the University of Victoria from 1979 – 80 and received her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1985 from the University of Waterloo, graduating with Honours. She began her career with a group of progressive optometrists in Abbotsford, working there from 1985 – 1995. In 1988, Dr. Horner joined Family Eyecare Centre part-time and became the full-time owner in 1996.
Dr. Horner’s other accomplishments include: UW Dean’s Honour List; BCAO Treasurer, Ethics Committee chair and Councilor; President of the New Westminster Networking Women’s organization; «Best Optometry Office in New West» award (4 times); and «Business Person of the Year» nomination (3 times).
In her spare time, Dr. Horner enjoys cycling, hiking, outdoor fitness, music and cooking. Her greatest passion is travel, which she has combined with optometry in the form of missions to India, Morocco and Malawi. She has also traveled to over 60 other countries.
