ACBB Hostel Niagara

Pros:
–great location (5 minute-​walk to the world famous falls)
–clean
–breakfast included
–good value for money
–friendly host
–good tips and advice
–feels safe
Cons:
–well this is an hostal; so you if you are into 4-​star hotels this isn’t the place for you… expect bunk beds, shared bathrooms, etc…
–no lockers
So — four star for the value for money — 30CAD is hard to beat

ok. so one update that I forgot to write last summer. there were no ACs in the shared rooms. which made it impossible to sleep for some of us when the temperature was melting outside (+30C) Installing ACs would greatly improve the quality of the hostel overall.

ACBB was definitely one of the nicer hostels I’ve been too. The location couldn’t have been more perfect, and the staff was super nice, and always willing to give us advice and suggestions. We even arranged for a wine-​tour which was lovely.
The beds were great, the bathrooms were clean, and the overall hostel seemed well taken care of and managed. There weren’t a ton of people at the hostel, as it was only the ‘beginning’ of tourist season.
My friend and I were initially a little concerned after reading reports of bed bugs. We did our due diligence of checking our room very thoroughly, and didn’t see any signs that bed bugs were a problem. Additionally, neither of us was bitten, and now, nearly 2 months later, we are still bed bug free!
For 30/​night, I was extremely happy with what I paid for and my experience at ACBB.

GHETTO!
Have stayed in Hotels in: New York, Boston, Montréal, London, Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam and more and this one has got to be the worst!
What they do WRONG:
— Wacko home made bunk beds (all of them!!) that sway and move crazily any time either the top OR bottom person moves. I’m a pretty heavy sleeper so ultimately not a huge problem, but I definitely felt afraid being in the bottom bunk. Beds should NOT move that much.
— The roof and windows leaked in the room that my friends stayed in (top floor)
— No fans offered even in 30+ temperatures, although they installed ceiling fans in the washroom areas (totally unnecessary!) The bedrooms are where they are needed.
— No screens on windows which you MUST have open due to the heat, so bugs obviously.
— Moldy fruit offered as part of the continental breakfast. (3 yoghurts, 4 muffins and old fruit, in the peak of berry/​fruit season in Niagara region offered to 6pple)
— Place seems to be under renovations or in need of renovations…
All this for $ 30/​person. Spend a bit more and get a cheap motel/​hotel and you won’t regret it!

Easily the worst hostel I have ever stayed in. No air conditioning — which I could live with if they had provided a fan. There were ants and apparently, bed bugs that I have taken home with me. Also, there were none of the supposedly delicious muffins everyone keeps talking about.
I am really surprised that there are so many good reviews on Hostel World, as I have stayed in many hostels that are much cleaner for a much lower price.
